I didn't need any special tools, I think it was a few phillips head screws and then the plate and pump lifted out. I think I lifted the pump just enough to get the pella tube past it and extracted all the fuel. There is probably a video on youtube somewhere. I highly recommend the Pella pump or equivalent if you do DIY servicing as it makes an oil change a very easy and clean job and quite a few new cars have oil extraction pipes built in now.
