When I got my 1.0 EcoTSI DSG, paper mpg is 64mpg....delivery mileage of 170 miles was 57mpg. I have no clue what speeds the delivery person was doing, perhaps 60-65 mph. But since 180 miles (when I got it), it could routinely do over 50mpg on 40-60mph roads routes, even had a few 60+ mpgs for the journey. Now it has 11k miles, but my experience is that mpg on my car (at least according to the trip computer) didn't really get better. Bear in mind, this is a 3 cylinder engine. Trip computer vs amount put the tank calculated was within 1% for mine. On Friday I pick up my new car, also a 1.5 Turbo, but Volvo V40, and no cylinder shutdown (bye bye Seat for a bit). I wonder what mpg I would get on the 250 mile trip down...would be happy if I can get 40-45mpg (paper is 50mpg combined). Also is yours a manual or DSG? on my DSG, it would upshift around 1.7-2k rpms...

Well we will see get my new 1.5 130 on Wednesday, although delivery is driven from Crewe , I’m in West Sussex so what just over 200 miles on the clock I’d imagine , hopefully it gets driven ok!! Haha

Also it’s colder right now, so economy won’t be as good as in the summer usually !

Let is know, I guess it should be mid-high 40s...if it's in the 30s, either it's driven like a Cupra should be, or...they were going waaay too fast...

Yeah that's similar to mine, 1.4.TSI 150, a 300 mile motorway journey returns me around 42mpg, it's ridiculous... I know people with Cupras who get very similar figures (Steady motorway driving) and mines supposed to be economical!

Small engines = false economy

My pal with his golf R can get 38mpg at 70 on the motorway. Small engines struggle

I was at least hoping mid 40’s combined. The book is something daft like 56-58mpg combined i cant get that even at 50mph

If i knew that i would of just bought the 1.8 tsi FR, and you can’t actually buy a new diesel FR anymore as they dont make them. Only option is 1.5tsi or 1.8tsi petrols

Mines even smaller at 1.4 but I'm finding the economy to be very good, nearly as good as my old VW diesel. Yesterday I spent all day on the motorway at 70, mostly in 2cyl mode and got 53mpg.

It's possible you have a fault, but I'm not sure how you could convince the dealership to action it.

Hoping its just cause its new and the engine is tight and needs to loosen off a bit, also maybe the ecu needs to learn exactly how its using fuel etc,

God knows

I bought mine to replace my Honda Civic Type R, it averaged 23-24mpg so i am still noticing a marked saving on fuel cost, but not as much as i had hoped.

Part of me wishes i kept the civic, what a car that was :(

My Volvo V40 1.5 Turbo (152PS) did the 300+ mile journey on mainly 50-70 mph with some city traffic, did just shy of 42mpg. Picked it up with 15 miles on the clock...on Paper combined is 49.6mpg.

Good Job you didnt get the D4 engine! my mates just had to have a new engine at 60k miles, due to a design fault on the original EGR design!

Saw this thread this morning and had a long-ish drive ahead of me that I didn’t need to rush for.

54mpg on motorway and a bit of A road and town at the end. Max cruising speed was 70mph.

That’s with the 1.8 tsi!

-1C ambient temperature, cold atart and heated seat on all the way.

I Usually get around 52mpg on a 1.4 EcoTSI 150 BHP. stage 1 on a journey with speed around 80 miles per hour (which is the speed limit over here..)

I've covered over 35.5k in my 1.4 eco tsi my17 and have returned a long term average over that of 47mpg with my main commute often returning since start figures of 60mpg+ until I get on the dual carriageway. Definitely just as much as my older Astra diesel used to get.

Mine lives in sport mode but I wouldn't say it gets driven hard. I'm happy with the figures tbh. Everyone assumes a long journey will return good figures but it depends on the type of road, traffic, driving style etc. The 1.4 is a very economical engine but that's when it's driven on a roads and around town. On the dual carriageway it does tend to rev quite high, hence the reduced mpg. A car will also NEVER achieve the figures quoted in a brochure because they're carried out in a lab under strict operating conditions.

I can believe that, my Cupra did average 40 mph many times just by cruising at motorway speeds (+-)
