Wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar to this before.

Went to change from 3rd to 2nd and it got jammed, sort of moves out of 3rd but won’t go as far as neutral. Sometimes after a second or so and releasing pressure from the gear lever it will go in.

Called SEAT breakdown who sent an AA guy who took a look but suggested taking it to the dealer. Said it was fine to drive but just skip 3rd which was fine all the way to the garage. Dealer has no on in until new year, so am going to take it to an independent VAG specialist on 27th.

Car is 2y1m old, 24k miles so hoping that it should still be covered by warranty.

Why take it to an independent,if you let them work on it you risk invalidating the warranty.I would just drive around for now avoiding third gear, won't do any harm.

...and when you go to the SEAT dealer don't ask if it's covered by warranty, just tell them you would like the fault sorted under warranty!!!

( gearboxes shouldn't go wrong in 24k miles unless grossly mistreated.)

Not too far away
Seat assist should put you in a loan car and recover yours to the dealer I would have thought. I'd not be happy to drive that in case doing so causes further damage etc.

May be worth calling them back and explaining the situation in a polite but firm way. What if you had a 200mile drive to do on Chriatmas day with no confidence that the car will get you there?

They were spot on when my turbo died at a similar age after I explained that I wasn't happy to drive it even though the initial chap said it was ok to drive. Some chaps from enterprise dropped me a loaner off at 10pm that day and i kept it for a couple of weeks.

To cut a long story short, car - Seat - dealer - fix - zero expenses for you - goodbye. Don’t go to independent even if you trust he will do the job done because a) he won’t do it for free and mostly important b) you will not be covered by guarantee anymore.

Quick question: was the gearbox notchy from the very beginning? Did you get any “signs” that such problem will occur ?
