Service Reminder

Hi all,

Long time since I’ve been on here. The FR has been doing great, minus some very annoying little rattles and now a creaky suspension, but hey I’ll blame the cold weather.

My Oil Service Reminder popped up today. It says an oil change is due in 1100 miles yet I’m on 8200 miles. I thought it was every 10,000?

Plus, the days remaining countdown is about 10 days earlier that it should be.

Any ideas?

Am I right in thinking that the mk3s have a way of predicting what the oil quality is like, based off a number of parameters and applying those to determine an oil change date/mileage? Ie. Not always exactly 1 year of 10k?

Could be wrong but thought id read it somewhere.

On the fixed servicing intervals an oil change will be due every 15,000 km which is 9300 miles. (9320 actually, but this gets rounded down.)

Thank you for that. Strange how the manual would say 10,000 if it’s actually 9300.

Anyone else shed some light on this please? I’m now on 18,578 and it’s telling me an oil change service is due in 200 miles. That’ll be 9440 miles since the last service and 610 before the 10,000 interval.

I called the dealer and they were a bit unsure but said that the light is just reminder and that as long as I don’t go beyond 19,388 (10,000 since last service) then all is fine. But they also said the service due soon is just an oil change and I always thought the 20,000 service was a major?

The oil sensor is determining oil quality. The inspection service is everything, oil service is literally oil and filter.

@Luke_bank; I’m assuming you’re on the time and distance service regime rather than long life / flexible servicing. Under the time and distance service regime, service intervals In the UK are the sooner of 10,000 miles or 12 months and alternate between an oil change (minor) service and an inspection (major) service - the first being a minor service. So assuming your first service was an oil change / minor service, then yes, your forthcoming service should be the larger oil change and inspection service.

The reason your ‘service due’ reminder is showing earlier than you expected is because the car’s computer uses kilometres covered since the last service to calculate when to trigger the ‘service due’ reminder. Service intervals in countries that use km’s to measure distance is 15,000 kilometres, so your car will trigger the reminder based on 15,000 km’s and convert this to miles, which is 9,300 miles - pretty close to the 9,400 mileage that your car will have covered since the last service and earlier enough for you to arrange for the service to be carried out before you’ve covered 10,000 since your last service.
