This is my Seat Ibiza Mk2 16v Gti

Currently running
Engine
ABF 2.0 16v Engine standard,

Interior
Stripped and 6 point weld in roll cage
Imola Pro Bucket Seat

Suspension
Unbranded coilovers
25mm Neuspeed ARB's

Tyres
Yokohama

Recently purchased a complete BAM engine off an insurance write off.

I have a EBJ gearbox which I was going to mate to the ABF engine as the ratios were a bit closer and should improve acceleration. Plan now will be to use the standard CDA box and see how it fairs.

I was planning a track day in Feb but might put it off until March and get the BAM fitted in the mean time.

What final drive ratio are you planning on using? CDA with the standard 3.684 FD will work OK on the 1.8T. EBJ with the 3.389 FD will be no good for a track car.

I had the EBJ down as a 4.2 FD... 4.2 was the intention on the ABF. 4.2 might be a bit short for the BAM lump

According to my info, the EBJ 02J box has the 3.389 FD. I have a CDA box in my Caddy with a 1.8T (AGU), but with a 3.941 FD, and this is pretty busy gearing for a road car, although it may work well on track. As my Caddy never goes on track, this gearbox is scheduled to be swapped-out in the very near future. My mk2 Ibiza 1.8T runs a CGY box with a 3.684 FD, which is a good compromise to make it lively on track but also driveable on the road.

I recently discovered a very useful spreadsheet of VAG gearbox codes and ratios, which includes a calculator for speeds in gears. I cannot attach it here as it is an Excel file, but if you're interested, PM me your email address and I will send it over this evening.

Engine out

Utilise existing CDA gearbox & engine mounts
BAM side engine mount removed and not used
Rear Ibiza mount fitted to engine block
Turbo oil return swapped for 1.8t engine KO3 variant (routed around 4wd transfer box so obstructs when rear Ibiza engine mount fitted)
Air con pump removed
BAM Power steering pump swapped for ABF to utilise existing PAS pipes
Replace aux belt to suit non air con model
QpENG 3” downpipe
Darkside VR6 clutch & G60 lightened flywheel
BAM engine loom spliced to Ibiza loom
Immobiliser delete


To do
Coolant pipe layout
Intercooler set up
Neuspeed ARB’s to be fitted
Loom installed
Engine fitted
Dash rebuilt
Install BAM fly-by-wire throttle pedal
Fabricate exhaust system (outsourced)

Hopefully easy follow for anyone else looking to do the same conversion.
