There has been rumours of a Golf R400 so the hierarchy would be protected. If Revo can easily increase the power by software to 350-370 then surely it would be easy for Seat to take it to 350 with a 2 litre engine?

But the question is... would they want to? The new Cupra Formentor is only 245bhp. The NEW Cupra Leon as it will be May only come in around 290-300 again due to WLTP. Only someone with a Crystal Ball will know without waiting till nearer release.

Of course, it's feasible but SEAT and Revo aren't exactly playing by the same rules when it comes to warrantees and emissions testing. I'm struggling to think of a FWD hatch with more than about 320 bhp. If the competition aren't doing it, why should SEAT?

If SEAT elect to make all Cupras 4drive, then 350 bhp becomes more feasible but my guess is that SEAT will leave this market to the tuners.

All speculation at this time, of course. Time will tell.

This is the frustrating thing about timing it right when a new version is pending. It's a shame none of the car magazine have any info as to when and what the spec will be on the replacement. My deposit is still in place and I probably will take delivery of a new MK 3 in the next few weeks and no doubt fully enjoy the experience

Was it Seat Ireland that said that? I think with the change over to Cupra sub brand only one dealer in Ireland can sell them, they have an Ateca Cupra but at €50k its way over what I'd be willing to pay for one.

Yes ! From what I know ,my query was put forward by the dealer and what they told me was, I couldn’t order a new cupra MK111 as they were still awaiting WLTP classification. They have no idea how this whole Seat/ Cupra brand plays out. It seems like you say, one dealer in Ireland will be selling the brand from now on. I saw the Alteca Cupra advertised , but at 50k ? not sure I’d stretch things that far. I do like what they are doing with the brand though, the logo is growing on me but it will be a make or break thing for me over the next 6 months or so , once I see how things pan out.

Assuming we're talking about a Cupra Leon, not a SEAT Leon, I think it's probably 18 months away, which is too far away for any details to be available.

Enjoy the new car. I'm sure you'll love it.

Maybe but history tells us that there is usually no serious performance version until about a year after the base model (this was certainly the case with the Mk. 3 Leon). However, the need to promote Cupra as a separate brand may drive the need to reduce any delay.

I cant see a cupra mk4 coming for ages, they have to sell all the base models first then you will see the FR - im taking delivery of my Cupra next week cant wait - will be interesting to see what Cupra have up their sleeve in the next year or so with electric tech filtering down to Seat..electric CUPRA leon could be interesting!

Power increases have been incremental in VAG for the past few years. Why would they give a FWD platform a huge increase?
Does VAG own Continental and Michelin?

The next range topping Leon wont be a SEAT, it'll be a Cupra. I presume the range topping Mk4 Leon might be a 1.8 or 2.0 Turbo Petrol FR with around 200HP. It'll be nowhere near the Cupra Leon but I imagine a fraction of the price. I say stick with the Mk3 Leon Cupra.
They have today announced a new Cupra Leon R ST which has all the lovely trimmings but is the estate version so I suspect the hatchback Cupra R should be announced shortly. Things are moving rapidly with Cupra

The hatchback Cupra R has already come and gone last year, has it not?
That's a good point. Last year's was a limited edition with only about 17 available in the Uk so I wonder if this is just the estate version with limited numbers. I was getting excited at the thought of a mainstream R hatchback being the latest evolution of Cupra available shortly I'm disappointed now lol
