I was going/wishing to start another thread after wading thru 81 pages and TOTALLY confusing myself.
I asked three dealers and all said the same.

YOURS IS BANG UP TO DATE. Nothing to do
However DO NOT on any account follow the instructions on line as you will kill the system etc etc. It is NOT for UK. There is also no MapCare over here.

Then all of them quoted the horror stories of whole systems being replaced at great cost following corruptions and systems bricking of tech friendly owners doing like on here. [81 pages]

Can a mod edit it from 2013 into sections or systems.

[Mine says:- Map UK Southern England 2018 and picture below.
SD card case EUROPE 1 [V7]
made by TOMTOM

not even sure out of ALL the systems and codes on here what navigation I have on my new 2018 CUPRA R

Capture.JPG

What is a tech unfriendly guy supposed to do
[Yeah ok buy a TOM TOM my windows phone will not link to my media system]

SORRY I am CONFUSED of KEYNSHAM ha ha

Well the mib2 high which you have based on 0166 shown on the screen, so you have to shell out on that. No workaround as there is on a mib2 standard. Two routes, ask your dealer to update the maps for a couple of hundred pounds if it's available or you pay a retrofitter to convert your unit into a retrofit. There seems only one outfit in the UK that can do this that operates out of South London.

You can't kill a mib2 high very easy yourself unless you put it into developers menu via VCDS and try to bypass Mapcare, you can't so it will stop you from using navigation until you restore the map version that it came with or any one before.

Only two people on this thread has done this, me and someone else. I've seen someone else do it on a European thread. It's the mode of updating the maps on retrofit mib2 highs but won't work if it's not a retrofit. That menu can only be accessed by the developers menu which is locked down until it's unlocked via VCDS commands.

You can't kill a standard mib2 that's been proven by tinkering with the card since you can always download the file that came with the vehicle and reset. Playing with firmware is something different to map updates. There is a thread on that on this board. That apparently only gives mib2 standard solutions.

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/sw-update-for-mib2-infotainment-system.427280/page-20

If you are not technically competent then best to shell out. As repeated a number of times on the thread Skoda and VW have abandoned Mapcare allowing owners to update the maps themselves. In the rest of Europe most Seat owners if they wish can buy at the time of getting their car Mapcare for £100 or so which gives them three years of updates. Buying mapcare after can cost £600 or so abroad for a mib2 high or a single map upgrade about half that price. Since few Seat mib2 high unit are bought in the UK my experience has been dealers aren't up to speed with them. Now Cupras are getting mib2 high units only in the UK, there will be alot of people growling about the situation in the future with expensive top of the range cars.

Even where Mapcare is available alot of people do have technical issues which you read around the use of Mac's and VW / Skoda software not working. Clearly if you are not technically minded then you need to get a dealer to update the maps. VW and Skoda offer this route even where Mapcare is available. Seat in the UK not supporting Mapcare defaults to this single route unless you have a mib2 standard using the workaround or a mib2 high retrofit then you can do it yourself. Mib1 standard / high no solution apart from the dealer unless it's a retrofit or getting it made into a retrofit.

Hope that help :).

PS on the dealer comment 166 isn't bang up to date but I guess they don't have the bang up to date card to update it with. 175 is bang up to date.

I wonder if you can get the SatNav application itself upgraded, as I noticed on a courtesy car I had last week that it had some extra functions. An example is like Tells pic above, where you have an extra icon in the bottom right corner to show you a timeline of your journey, and how far along it you are.

That icon on that screen in this case is the one

It can mute or repeat the last announce-
ment, or can change the announcement vol-
ume.

It came in on the 2018 model firmware or there about on the standard and high. That appeared after I got my firmware changed although the picture's from a mib2 standard. It supports a colour border that I believe matches the side down door lights. I havent changed the colour but I reckon mine would change on that basis... currently blue :).

I haven't seen anything else. You need the firmware code off the demo car to check.

when did Cupras start getting MIB2 High units fitted?

My ST 4drive was built in Feb and has a MIB2 Standard unit..

Ateca Cupra which I don't think is shipped yet. Not sure of Leons. It's all part of Seats marketing. May be on Leons the standard hasn't been dropped yet from the Cupra. You can't get the high now on an Ateca unless it's a Cupra. Probably being Ateca centralist ;).

Hi Tell.
Thanks for the very full and kind reply.
Excellent.
Understood all that.

So how do I get an update if there is no updated SEAT SD card available.
Not possible unless what you suggest I expect?

Thanks

Can anyone please help me with the speed cameras?
I've followed all the steps and shelled out the cash, but when I get to the car and insert the USB or SD Card it doesn't update. It initially says "Software Update Available" so I know it can see something, but when I get to "Manage Memory" it can't find the update.
I've tried the MIB1 and MIB2 on both SD and USB - same result.

You could wait until they release the card which they would use for the update, hassle them periodically or go the retrofit route. You can probably cope with the maps being a year out of date for a period and then take action. Basically what some of us did on here.

Seen this thread

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index....f-woe-vw-pulled-the-update-site-again.444799/

I use Poinspector and pocket GPS World subscription cameras.

Basically your file won't have the correct signature / format for the unit so it hasn't been manufactured correctly so isn't recognised.

Should work. Mib2 standard only.

There was one instance where someone copied all the stuff in that directory and not just the single file in question.

A long hold on the on / off will cause a reboot just in case it's still holding in memory what it's read previously.

Not pesky Mac errors in the unzip ?.

Failing that I'd download the original release off the net and try that. The original file (overall.nds) is paired with the release and the SD card's CID is registered to the unit, so if the original file(s) get mislayed in the workaround you can always get that back if you know which release the unit was on. So you could re-install from files on the net rather than what you have if something didnt land in the right place.

As long as you've got an MIB2 Std unit, you can't really go wrong with these updates. What errors are you seeing?
Make sure you've downloaded the 6P version of the map update to start with. Copy ALL files off the SD card onto your PC as a backup, switch the SD card tab away from 'Lock', format the SD card clean, unzip the new map update, copy the 'map' folder from the update to the root of the SD card and then copy the 'overall.nds' file from the 'maps\EEC\EEC_WLD' folder from your backup and copy it to the same folder path on the SD card. There are several 'overall.nds' files on the SD card, may be you've copied the wrong one back. Switch the SD card tab back to 'Lock', put it back into the MIB2 and try again.

Not using a Mac which is having issues unzipping the zip file. For PC VAG recommends 7Zip only the rest including the internal one of Windows can cause problems. So I just use the free 7Zip to drag and drop out to HD and from there to the SD. Too much disk activity if you unzip directly to the SD card.

The only thing I would say if you do reformat make sure it's Fat32. I've been pulled up on saying reformat before. It's fast with the mib2 high update since there is a lot of files and space. Standard people might be tempted to alter the sector size, leave that alone and keep to fat32 or just delete what's on it since its just much faster with the standard version.

6P as long it's the standard mib2 not an issue whether the final part number turns out as 6P or not. Just the all of Europe one that VW rushed out doesn't say 6P when installed. Seat and Skoda never put this one up on their sites so Seat and Skoda people take that version to avoid the zoned release :). Zoning seems to be a half baked up idea by the people creating the November 2018 release which didn't please the VW community together with the speed errors.

I don’t understand why the here site dead for eu1 but vw good.

The Seat site is often problematic but the downloads are all the same files once uncompressed whether it's from the Seat Here Maps side, Skoda servers or VW servers. Just with this release cycle it was split into seven zones which you find on the three sites when working but by popular demand VW released the all Europe file but that never got put onto the other sites.

That release is inline with the European EU1 which we had prior to zoning. Some people driving across Europe need that it any case.

You would only do that in the release if you couldn't fit it on one SD. Evident they could. It's been suggested that TomTom generated this one (name is on jewel the box) and it's them that caused the zoning and the speed limit display showing the trailer speed when you are not towing. Motorway speed not showing etc.

Next release should be in June. Hopefully they will fix the speed issue in that.
