I have a 2016 Ibiza FR Tech 1.4 EcoTsi with the Gen2 6.5'' Nav System with Full Link. My mum has a 2015MY Leon FR Tech 1.4 EcoTsi with the Gen1 5.8'' Nav system. Hypothetically, and without consideration of cost, is it possible to upgrade from the Gen1 to the Gen2 system with full-link? I know the 2016MY Leon has the Gen2, and is offered with the option to upgrade to full-link for £150.

Seat (JCT600 SHeffield) Have said they would not entertain a retrofit of the Gen2 on a 2015 Leon and would not give me a price. Other than the higher-resolution head unit, has anyone tried (and succeeded with this upgrade? I've seen 2nd hand 6.5'' head units on ebay for £150, which woul likely need coding, but is there anything else that needs to be changed?

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, i searched the forum first and spent most of the morning trying different google search terms to no avail.

No idea on afraid, have you tried the Barnsley SEAT dealer. Used to be Bristol Street, now cars2.

And hello from another Sheffield Leon owner :)

What you need is a MIB2 (2016->) infortainment system unit, 6,5" or 8" screen and new USB/Aux port if you already have a 5,8" MIB infortainment system. The old 5,8" screen wont work with the MIB2 system unit because it has lower resolution. When fitting a new 6,5" or 8" screen, you need to modify the screen connector HSD plug in the cars wiring harness by cutting few tabs. This can be done with a knife.
Some new wiring is also needed for the new USB/Aux connector.

If you buy a used MIB2 infortainment system unit you need to have the component protection removed by SEAT or send the unit to eastern europe to some hacker who has access to ODIS. Component protection can not be removed with VCDS.

In the link below you'll find some information about fitting the MIB2 unit and screen. Use Google Translate to change the text from Spanish to English.

is it easy to go from the 5.8 5f0035858a to the 6.5" ?

just a case of removing component protection ?

To be clear, I meant the previous reply to your original question. It's not just a matter of removing CP.

Hi mate,

Doesn't sound like an easy job.
I got my MY16 Leon in November 15 through JCT Sheffield and I wanted to sort out full Link too.

It was a £150 activation fee, but when they looked into it the existing USB module needed replacing too. So you'll need a confirmation on the right parts.

What else needs to be done ?

Car manufacturers would be better off leaving a hole in the dash like they used to years ago and let the user decide what they want. I cant even upgrade the maps on the mib1 what a useless system

i was under the impression if the car already had BT GPS it would be a straight swap but only an issue for cars without navi to begin with ?

Hey dude,
How did you get on with this? Found this thread in my own searching - devastated I couldn't buy a MY16+ or facelifted Leon, but I'm very happy with my 2014 Cupra... with the exception of the infotainment. MIB2 + Android auto would be a godsend.

You can't use the frame that is made for the 8 inch screen on an early car as the fixings on the frame are different depths, so you have to modify the aperture in the existing frame.

Can the 8" frame be modified to fit ?
