I fitted mine above the unit behind the heater panel. You can place there without having to remove the panel as you can push the antenna up from underneath.

No issue with mine fitted this way

Ok mate cheers thank you will look at it again . Did your connection box to the sat nav fit behind ok ? Did your unit sit flush with the screw holes ?

Cheers for the reply

Don't have a connection box as I have a genuine VW rns510 headunit.

Had to cut away some plastic to fit the unit as I have a unit with a sd card slot.

My GPS Antenna is in the passenger side A Pillar - Why? just struck me as a good idea and I was putting the DAB antenna there too.
As for making room at the back, as you probably know, the key to working on it is to pull out the heater control unit which makes things a lot easier, I then removed all extraneous plastic at the back and sides with a Dremel taking great care using a flexible sheet of thick plastic material behind whatever I was cutting to avoid damaging wires etc. If you put the unit in with the heater controls out of the way you can arrange things nicely.

Strange as I've fitted a 9 inch Android from eBay it fits. Making sure first it fits my Cupra (2010) on the details section of that unit. Can't you return it? Actually anything purchased from China will meet resistance if you want to return it. Do the securing screws line up with your unit? If so you can try to carefully cut away at the internal plastic making sure you don't catch anything. Bit risky. Add for the GPS position. Gps near to the bottom of the driver side. I didn't need to as i had a previous oem sat nav so when i upgraded i just got some adaptors for the connections to the back of the unit but my dab aerial i put on my windscreen. Well, by attaching a thin bamboo sick with the cable of the aerial attached i poked the sick and cable out of the hole at the back of the sat nav compartment. Once through. I could retrieve the sick near the footwell. Separating sick and cable i then pulled the cable passed the fuse box and then i opened up some of the plastic trim all the way up until you are next to the windscreen pillers. then taking off the trim on the pillers and running the cables into them with the flat transparent aerial just sticking out. You can do the same with the sat nav. Sorry it seems more long-winded than what it is. The work is worth it. Once you use Google maps there is no turning back. Better than the sat nav software that came with the unit. Better than Waze. You probably already aware that It uses the location function of all phones on your route to determine the best route and what time you will get there by. No need to worry about buying upgrades for the maps as it does it automatically. Best of luck

How does Google Maps work without at least a decent 3G signal? I go places even 5 miles from home where there is none and frequently go through parts of Wales where you don't get a signal for hours. This is why I use Sygic and Tom Tom apps with downloaded maps, lifetime Europe map updates for Sygic was about £10 but there are many free ones. To be honest I much prefer the maps from Sygic and Tom Tom anyhow.
I know that you can download Google Maps (for a limited area) but when I did so whilst connected to WIFi, the files were ginormous for just a radius of 10 miles of my house (where I least need directions).
Additionally I do not want to be using my phone's data up like this.

It's not for everyone but it works a treat for me. I never use up all my data but i do have a lot( 20GB) not that it uses more than agbbsc week if that and data is cheap these days. I use it all the time just to avoid traffic. Helps avoid congestion generally. I do appreciate if you don't have reception out in Wales you would just use the software your unit comes with.it's free and a useful alternative if you have a Android head unit.

Park close to your house and use the WiFi. To download maps
Yes I know, as I said you get a ginormous file that covers a tiny rectangular area centred on your house whereas with Sygic I have a better app for £10 for lifetime offline maps, no contest.

If I tether to my phone, both Tom Tom and Sygic do live traffic without the overhead of downloading maps
Ok. I see the Sygic solution works for you. I perfectly understand that. Especially if the reception is not great
