My new 290 lux should be turning up next week and I’m already thinking of what smaller wheels will fit. I’ve had 19” on my gti pp and they where nothing but a pain due to the pot holes etc where I live.

What options do I have for 18 or even 17” wheels ?

Be careful with 17 inch wheels

I got some Audi TT wheels as winter wheels and they only just clear the callipers in the cupra/clubsport

They work fine on the wife’s non PP GTI but on the bigger brakes yours better off with 18s

I have some matt black 17" TD Dezent Alloy Wheels 112 x 5, 7.5J x 18 ET40 (with plastic spigot rings) - also required conical bolts. They are a no-nonsense, easy to clean design.

I have not fitted to the Cupra yet, but these squeezed over the 340mm VAG PP brake set up on the Octavia VRS. Must have low profile balance weights fitted though, with only a few mm clearance - these were a TUV approved size for the VRS, but with the ET40 offset would not have allowed fitment of the snow chains. I think that an ET48 version is now available that will provide a similar fit to OEM - I purchased mine when the first MQB platform cars were rolling off the production lines, so choice was limited.

I used 18" winters on my Cupra and they improved the handling and ride by a lot. Shame it had winter tyres fitted.

I still have them but can't use them any more because they don't fit the current car.
