Yeah. I’d love to see what a light cars like on track.
Been toying with the idea of getting something around a ton next time. You can try mine.
Loads of torque and no LSD. loads of tyre squealing fun.

The saxo weights I think about 790kg empty. Plus me at about 100kg. Then an extra added plate to bring it up to 925 for class limit. But every thing has been lightened. Cut out or replaced with carbon fibre.
And this is what is going to happen with the leon as I build it along the way.

I'm off down to Cadwell Park on the 10th May, anyone been down there? any advise?

Its a novice only day (as this is gonna be my first time out on a track and thought it might be best to go to a novice one haha)

Great track, it is used more for Bikes these days as its not the widest but it is great fun to drive, lots of up's/downs and tight corners.

Advise

1/ Fill your tank up with fuel before you arrive (there is a shell garage at Louth not far away)
2/ Take cash with you (If you want food / tea coffe etc and crash helmet hire (if you dont have one) is normally cash only)
3/ Format is
Sign on - you will get a form to say you accept if you have an accedent you cant claim from them or any other driver involved even if it is there fault.
Get yourself a crash Helmet (if you dont have one) you are limited to real bike or car helmets, if the car is open top then full face one needed.
Get the car sound tested - easy job you just rev the car as high as you can and they take a noice reading (if its to loud then they wont let you on the track but stock road car you should have no issues.
Then there is the safty briefing - listen to what they tell you its for your saftey
Then you have a sighting lap (when I did it there were three groups but they use teh tannoy systme to tell you who is going out, the sighting lap is just a gentle drive round the track so you know what to expect when you go out and can see all the marshels (who will advise you if there is a problem) - this is normally around 09-00 then they will call your group and you will get something like 20 minutes to drive around the track.
If people are up your back side trying to make you go faster than you want, if its safe to do so pull over, if not they have to wait dont put yourself at risk.
Then the chequered flag will be shown this means that this session is over, you can come off park the car up.
Open the bonnet to help engine cool down, do not apply the hand brake as your disks will be very hot just let them cool down and before you go back out again just check your tyre pressures.

Enjoy the day

If you go on Youtube you will see lots of video's of peoples track days and its worth a look to get used to the track.

Keep an eye on your fuel level, normally I go back to the garage to fill up at lunch time but it does depend on how much track time you get and how fast you push it.

If you come off the track you will be told to come in, this is a simple safty measure to stop you having a more dangerous accident and let your addrenalin cool down.

Then before you know it it will be time to go home and you will be very tired as you concentrate a lot .

There is normally a track instructor you can hire (not a huge amount of money) and if you can afford it I would recomment it as they give you good advise.

There are a few flags which tell you to come off / slow down this will all be explained in the safty briefing.

Have fun.

Cadwell is a great circuit, technical & fun!

Probably done 5 track days there, mainly do the evening sessions as at £79 for 2 1/2 hours I get my fix, don’t spend “too” much on fuel and the car lives to fight another day.

Make sure you car is in tip top condition. Check fluids, maybe replace them prior.. brake fluid / oil / coolant etc.
Use good fuel ie 99 ron.
Tire pressures increase dramatically so Keep an eye on them and deflate as necessary, 10 hard laps in the summer can see it go up 10/12psi!
Make sure brake discs & pads are all ok.
Tires take a battering, you don’t want to drive home with them illegal!

On track, allow everything to warm up, don’t try and be a hero straight away! Learn the track, your limits, and have fun!

If there is an instructor, take advantage. They will teach you the lines to take & you will love the track even more when you know how to drive it properly!

One last comment from me.

They should warn you in the briefing but if not be aware that the section of track from hairpin to barn is under trees so the road can be very slippy
further there is very little run off and a steep bank so be careful on this bit

I use a company called Opie Oils (they give 10% discount on here with code 'cupra') they recommend 5W-40 for remapped Leon Cupra R's.

Personally I've used "Gulf Competition 5w-40 Racing Ester Fully Synthetic Engine Oil" for the last three years and change every year. Only do 1000 miles a year and it usually comes out almost as clear as it went in. Price is good too.

Wicked, thanks ill have a look into that, at the min is just got TRIPLE QX - 5W-40, but it think i need something abit better than that for racing.

Oils is very in depth stuff,
I was reading an article about oil from one of the HASS brothers.
In short and in layman’s terms
You’ll never get oil that works for both Racing and road.
All to do with working temperatures. Racing oil won’t reach desired temp on road no therefore remains too thick/ viscous.
Whereas road going oils will get too hot on track and will fail as well. You can’t cook the oil as most believe.
What happens is once it goes over it’s operating temperature it effectively burns off the expensive additives which are the important bits helping to look after the internals of one’s engine.
I in short wait until it’s no longer a road can and then upgrade to a decent Racing oil.

Right ok, so basically use the kind of oil that in it at the moment until its completely off road?

Thanks again

@Sparkie I do agree with what you are saying but i would add in that if you have a road going car with modified engine then you stock oil should be upgraded as well. Personally I use Motul 300V 10W40 as this is what my garage (who used to race track cars) recommended for both performance engine use and keeping oil temps under control on the track.
I also found when i fitted my baffled sump (which in my case also gave me greater oil capacity) that this helped improve heat control, I was getting 120 on just hard road use and now I am at 108 on a hard track day.

Just throwing it out there, anyone fancy an evening event at Brands Hatch in a few weeks, looking at going either 10th or 11th June. Got a 10% discount code for the 10th too, so only £108 for the evening session.....

Yeah so found myself cruising eBay one Saturday night instead of talking to the wife and committed to an LCR track car part built.

Got my motorbike on bike trader on the Monday and after 20 mins I had a deposit and it was collected that weekend. Then got the LCR Picked up the following weekend.

So in short I have a group of mates who go to the Ring in the summer. I went to spa and the ring with them in April this year and got an invite for the summer so instead of being a passenger I shall be driving the LCR Fingers crossed.

So the car....here is the current specs as bought.

Stage 2 274bhp and similar torque
Front mount air cooler
Front mount oil cooler
Turbo back milltek
Quaife differential
Group N discs
Ds2500 pads
Spax Coilovers
Some braided brake lines
Lots of silicone hoses not coolant system though
Welded custom cages cage
Cobeau seat
Sabelt harness
Poly windows
Fire extinguisher system
Bettery in boot
5 x dmack cut slicks

And I think that’s all I can remember.

Parts On order / delivered:

KW Clubsport 2 way suspension
Xp10/12 Carbotech pads
Pagid discs
Full SuperPro bush kit front rear and top mounts
single mass flywheel and clutch
Spare wheels with full slicks
Spare seat, runners and harness.
Some gauges and buttons etc as deleted the whole dash

So it’s not a new car and I’m sure someone will have seen this car before knocking about and as with every project there is a story....

So the guy I bought it from had bought it and not used it as it was too small for him (6’5”) approx. He was massive.

The car was built by 2 lads as what was going to be a touring car to be run somewhere north west England? Sadly one if the lads passed suddenly and hence it coming for sale. Would love any more info on the cars history should anyone know it.

Having worked through the car there are some great bits on the car and once properly put together and with the bits I shall add then it will be a very sorted track car! I’m guessing it was put back together in a bit of a rush given the circumstances as there’s a tonne of cable ties bodges. Anyways here’s some photos and I shall be doing s build thread to follow the progress.

So the work I’ve done so far is to rip
Out the dash and heater exchange box blanking the matrix and then cut every last inch of wiring loom not needed. I’ve started to light weight the doors too cutting everything I can out to help with weight.

To say I’m excited is an understatement to get this round track!!
