Cupra Mode...

Hey guys, been recommended to join this forum as a fellow Cupra owner and already have learnt many tips and tricks from reading all these threads, thanks to everyone who contributes on here!

I have a quick question regarding Cupra mode on my MK3 Cupra 2019. If I turn off the ignition after driving and leaving the profile in Cupra mode, when I switch on the ignition/engine then next time I am under the impression by default it will be in Comfort mode right? However the Cupra light stays on and I'm sure I'm not hearing things but when driving off in 'Comfort' mode it does sound quite loud. It's only when I cycle through the profiles back into comfort that the Cupra light goes off and engine sounds as it should in comfort mode (yet on the dash it's D not S)

Anyone else noticed this?

You turned your Soundaktor off?

That could be the reason for the exhaust note as it replicates the sound and gives you a false note.

Not sure how exactly it works on a manual, but on a DSG, if you leave the driver profile in Cupra mode and turn the ignition off. When you restart the car, the driver profile is in cupra mode still, but the engine itself will be in comfort mode. So things like suspension, sound actuator etc will be in Cupra, but the engine won’t. For us with DSG we just bang the gearbox back into sport or select Cupra mode again.

As SR231998 said, it will stay in Cupra even after switching it on the next time.
The S and D represent the gearbox mode and that will revert to D after starting the car next time.
The sound you are hearing is probably from the soundaktor, but if annoyed by that or you just want to make sure, you can just disconnect the cable for it.

Unless they have changed it in the latest models there are many many threads on here that talk about cupra mode.

When you recycle the ignition the mode button will show its still in cupra mode - although i have coded off the light now.
The Gearbox will go back to its default position of Comfort - as seen by the D in the gear position
The Engine will go back to its default position of Comfort - it works fine but its not in Cupra Mode.

As @Damo H said what the DSG Owners do is "For us with DSG we just bang the gearbox back into sport or select Cupra mode again."

I Coded sound actuator off so don't know if that stays on or not.

Happy to be proved wrong on the 2019 models but on older cars the engine and gearbox revert to default mode after turning off ignition

You're correct that the engine goes back to comfort when you turn the car off even though the screen still says cupra, everything else stays in the mode you leave it in, DCC steering weight, interior light lights, soun actuator etc

I've gone from a manual mk3 280 to a mk3.5 DSG 290

On the 290 - If Cupra mode was selected before switching off the engine, on startup the Cupra mode button remains lit. The steering, suspension, soundaktor e.t.c are left in Cupra.

The DSG always defaults to "D". The exhaust doesn't seem to have the same overrun characteristics.

My individual mode engine is set to ECO, changing the gearing method to "E" as opposed to D or S.

On startup this gets defaulted back to "D" also.

And whilst we are at it the Stop Start (unless you have the memory version) reverts to standard (which is on) after you have turned it off.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm not annoyed by the sound was just curious as to what options remain in Cupra mode and as was stated it seems engine goes into comfort mode but everything else remains in Cupra, good to know.

I know it’s all been covered but i thought I’d attach from the official manual.

P.S. Heads up for any of those who thought about setting eco on the manual gearbox ..

Very helpful never noticed it said that. Anyway to keep the engine mode as selected? Such as carista/ coding? Bit annoying!?

No, no doubt the car will need to do things to protect itself, so start up will be programmed for normal mode only. Better to to run when cold too. I don’t use cupra//sport till oil temps are at least above 80. In fact Revo software doesn’t give you full power till 70.

Don't see how starting in Cupra would effect anything, it's not like it gives you anymore power or anything, it's only throttle response that changes, I understand the revo restriction as the engine is producing more power whereas is sport cupra you get no more power/boost
