Who's your insurance with with your cupra.

I'm 29 4 years Ncb and getting quoted over £800. Is this normal?

I'm with Hastings, they always come through cheapest for me. For reference I have just turned 30 and have 11 years ncb and in total it has cost me about £550 this year (including the change of policy charge when I changed to the Cupra mid term).

I have had some luck* with Adrian flux in the past, they are a broker and deal with a lot of the performance car forums so can sometimes get a decent price.

*apart from when I wanted to change car mid term and they wanted more than a new policy would cost to change

Dependent on your location in the UK I would say that's about right, similar details and pay £700:yes:

Edit - Sorry, with AXA who were cheaper than comparison sites which i am sure are a rip off!

@Paulr23; insurers use so many risk factors in their very complex premium calculation algorithms, it’s almost impossible to determine whether or not your premium is normal by comparing to other Cupra owners’ premiums.

In addition to driver age, the type of car and number of years no claims discount, factors such as those listed below (there will be many others) will vary from one person to another so it’s unlikely it’ll be possible to compare other peoples premiums to yours on a like for like basis, which you’d need to be able to do to see if your premium is normal for someone else fitting your insurance risk profile;
  • Postcode / garaging address
  • Occupation
  • Yearly mileage driven
  • Marital status
  • Other drivers, their ages, driving experience and accident / claims history
  • Use of the car
  • Modifications to the car
  • The excess - compulsory excess imposed by the insurer and and voluntary excess selected
If you put your risk details into one of the comparison sites, the range of insurers premium quotes will give you a rough idea of whether or not a premium of around £800 is normal for you. Also, it’s worth contacting a few insurance brokers who specialise in insurance on performance cars - Adrian Flux and Chris Knott are forum sponsors. They may have special scheme arrangements with a number of selected insurers and will do the leg work for you, and so may be able to find you a cheaper premium than you can get via a comparison site. It might also be worth contacting some of the insurance companies who don’t appear on comparison sites, such as Direct Line or Aviva.

I never use comparison sites as they are a total waste of time for me.

I tend to use Direct Line, Aviva and Admiral. However I do go for multi-car policies to cover myself and MrsMaypacks Car.

My 2017 Cupra 300 and MrsMaypacks 2017 Leon Xcellence come out between £500 - £570 a year for both depending on what amount of Voluntary and Compulsory Excess I choose are acceptable to pay should we need to.

I’m also 53 and MrsMaypack is 49.

Another thing is dont use cash back sites like quidco/topcashback. My multicar Admiral quote was £681 (for Cupra and Astra), going to Admiral via Quidco it was £799 with the exact same details, so £118 extra for £55 cash back... Hmmm..

Cost is totally dependant on history and location. I could pay 10x as much in London or Birmingham than I do in Exeter, which has among the lowest insurance costs in the country.

I was around 350 with direct line, 29 too with 7 or 8 NCB.

Someone hit me within last few years too, direct like are always around half the price of others for me.

I was surprised with my quote with AXA. Im paying £508 per annum im 24 with 5 years NCB.

My 2017 FL Octavia VRS prior to this car was £1000 per annum with AXA.

It is surprisingly cheap yeah. Its a bit more than my Astra, but not that much given that its got double the power and is a lot more sophisticated.

Ive also got Alloy insurance because I have been known to kerb wheels and some around here are silly high and lumpy. £199 for 3 years cover up to 6 claims a year (each wheel is counted as 1 claim). Not bad given the cost of repairing this type of wheel.

I'm ancient at 43 and pay £241 with the better half insured with commuting. For some mad reason the Cupra was a lot cheaper to insure than our old FR184 diesel.

@Paulr23; any update? Interested to know the outcome and whether or not you found a lower premium.

You could always consider making some changes to your policy to lower the premium, such as the following;
  • Increasing your excess should reduce your premium.
  • Most insurers charge more if you pay your premium monthly rather than as a one off amount, so paying the premium in full up-front can work out cheaper. However, with car insurance premiums for most people being many hundreds of pounds (or more), this might not be an option for many.
  • Most, if not all, insurers use your estimated annual mileage as a risk factor when calculating a premium. You could review your annual mileage figure to see if you can legitimately reduce the current estimate (estimated annual mileage should be shown on your policy schedule if your insurer uses this information as a risk factor).
  • Some insurers charge a lower premium if you keep your car in a garage when it’s not in use rather than parking it outside. So if you have a garage but don’t use it for your car, it might be worth considering doing this.
  • Some insurers will offer a discount if you fit an insurance industry approved security device - best to check with the insurer before going to the expense of having any specific security device fitted though, to ensure they will offer a discount.
  • Does your insurance policy include ‘add-ons’ that you’re paying for but don’t need, such as breakdown cover? If you currently have the benefit Seat Roadside Assistance, but you’re also paying for breakdown cover as an add-on to your insurance policy, you could delete this cover.
Look forward to your update.

sorry about the late reply.

Got it a little lower in the low £700s however not drastically.. by adding a few drivers on as named drivers for example. Ideally want it in the 600s but ill probably just do the 700. I will be paying it all in one go, tried playing around with the figures a little in terms of excess and not much changes really...

24, 3 years NCB £450 with Esure, MY19 Cupra

Nope 0 points

Had a non fault claim in 2016, and windscreen claim in 2018.. Not sure if people put windscreen claims on their policies or leave it off.. Tempted to leave it off though as does increase it stupidly...

Did you do all this through comparison sites?
