Morning folks,

2004 LCR, BAM engine, 101k miles

Whilst under the bonnet changing a blown turbo to manifold gasket I thought I’d do a service as well. Pulled the first spark plug and it came out with engine oil all over it. Looked down the hole and there was still a fair bit of oil down there. Same for 2 and 3, 4 came out dry.

Cam cover gasket just failed or something more behind it?

Cheers

Steve

The rocker cover gaskets regularly fail on these engines.

Theres an inner one round the spark plug holes as well as the outer round the edge right? I’ll change them as I’ve got everything out of the way. Simple job with nothing to be careful of?

Yes there's an inner one. Dropping anything in there while it's apart lol or breaking the coil pack loom. Be careful with wires and the nuts, other than that it's a 20 min job at best.

Coil pack loom is carefully laced aside for better access to the turbo gasket so butter fingers aside things should be fine :)
