Has anyone had to get a replacement key for a Leon? Any idea of cost?

I'd like to know what others have paid before checking with the dealer to make sure they aren't taking the mick.

I had a replacement done earlier in the year from TPS, along with a lock barrel. The key cost £178 + VAT at the time. That was back in Feb. That was without any coding too, local prices I got for coding it in were around £60.

I'm guessing if you want a full function normal remote/folding wheel from VW Group, by the time you get it bought in cut to your lock number, all keys "removed" from the car's memory and all the existing keys "added" to the car's memory, the total cost will be a lot closer to £250+.

Edit:- oh, well same as Lozzy15's price I suppose!

Paid £270 from a Seat dealer all in. It was for a standard flip key with lock/unlock/boot open.
Then realised a few weeks later my home insurance would have covered it for £100 excess

I'm sure it's not this easy but cannot you get a key for a seat from a scrapyard get a new blade cut at a key cutters and then clear that key and get it reprogrammed to your car at a dealership or specialist.

So in theory if you get a brand new uncut key occasionally come up on eBay for around £30 and get it cut and programmed for I guess around £60 to £80 you could go down that route. Provided the key in brand new.

Well, you could strike luck buying a "brand new" key via ebay, or you might end up with an unused 2nd key that has had a new blade fitted to, depends on your rush to sort this out and your liking to gamble. You can buy a new transponder chip I believe which would sort that "can't code it" issue, but getting to that point of failure might cost you a bit in time and money, then more money to request another coding, which should work if you buy a new chip from a reliable source.
