Hi all,

I am picking up my new 2019 Leon Cupra 290 [EZ] next Friday (13th December, yes Friday the 13th..) and just wanted to introduce myself as I do definitely plan on modifying and will need some help as I come from the Ford scene!

Thanks

Adam

Welcome! Bet it's going to be the longest week ever next week! I doubt you'll be able to stick to just one mod once you start reading. The sensible option is to drive it for a bit first and see what you need / want. You might find you don't need springs and that the stock suspension is sporty enough. Also, an air filter won't do anything without a remap anyway. I'd go stage 1 and whilst it's in, get the engine mount done at the same time. :D

It certainly is! I'm trying to keep myself busy so I don't think about it too much haha! That's what happened with my Fiesta ST, one mod to the next and I love to do things myself! That's very true, I will see how I find it, it was more of a looks thing I was meaning to be honest, as most stock cars have ridiculous ride heights. Nice, I've seen unicorn developments are quite popular around by me (Manchester) so I will probably give them a visit! Thanks for the info!

Hello welcome to the forum. Ye i see with alot of newer hot hatches the ride hights pretty high. Mines oem suspension but its sooooo low! I read the mk1 r is 20mm lower than its counter part s3/tt plus i think the original 16yr old suspension on mine has sagged so got free lowering springs on front lol(rears were replaced at some point)

I remeber ron telling me that he took his 280 to a suspension specialist and said that low isnt always as good as commonly thought for handling. Are you planning on coming to one of our many great meets next year? Also get a build thread started mate! Happy moding :drive1:

Same when I had to raise my coilovers up cause of rubbing. I cried for about 90 minutes cause I wanted it low. But after they were raised up I found the handling / cornering was so much better. Now I'm tempted to go up again and see if I like it more. It'll be on stilts by summer next year.

If i go coilovers il have to get the maxton fron diffuser as it hugs the bumper more than the oem. Literaly about 4 or 5 inch from splitter to road lol. Plus i may have to raise the sub frame. Since i did the control arm bushes ive got mad responsive handling. Kinda get why audi did away with the 30 mm bush and did 45 as its not for your average driver. 30mm reducing collars probably one if the best mods ive done. So far... camt wait to test it in summer. Stage 2 by then lol

Thats the thing, they used to do it properly with the ride heights, I assume it’s the one in your PP? The motor looks great mate! Can’t complain free mods are a win lol! I’ve heard similar about handling to be honest, not sure if I just want to drop for aesthetics! Certainly mate, I was a member of a ford group previously so used to do all the meets etc. With them, so looking for something similar with this! Where do you usually go for meets? Thanks man, can’t wait to start the mods, we will see how long it stays stock!
