Obviously it has the 19" rims, question I am asking could I fit 18s with a 8.5j to use just in the winter as I got a full set of 225/40/18 winter tyres from my other car.

Some 18’s just about squeeze over the brakes but depends on the offset and spoke design. I know OZ Ultraleggera with something like a 18x8 ET40 clear.

Position of the stick on balance weights is also a factor. If a particular design of 18” wheel will just fit over the brakes, when you factor in the thickness of the wheel balance weights, there might be insufficient clearance between the brake calipers and the inner surface of the wheel.

Had this issue on my mk1 cupra r, had a gap less than 2mm between the caliper and the balance weights.

My Cupra is currently running on 17” winter wheels 7.5J, ET40 (Dezent TD) - these were the TUV recommended size for my Octavia VRS with the same front brake set up (standard TRV version - no chance for Brembos). They are tight (low profile weights only). As above, depends on spoke design for clearance.
