Really hope they go down the mk8 golf/a class interior with the dual screens, the mk3 interior looks so old now even with them crammed in tiny virtual cockpit

Hope they do a better job than VW did with it though. Can't stand that massive chunk of bent plastic between the dash and infotainment screens. Looks awful!

Begs the question about how those still awaiting builds will end up.. I remember the last delays and VW cancelling a fair few cars as the model year dragged on!

I’m enjoying that rear though, was behind a Terraco (I think) and it’s that light bar style, tasty!

Not a fan of the Kia style brake light. I know Kia didn't do it first but now every new Kia seems to have it and there's so many of them on the road. All I think when I see that style light is Kia.

I hate to be a negative Nancy.. as good and modern as that looks, ( the vw picture I'm talking about )

Imagine the rattles and vibrations....

I think that interior looks truly awful (the VW one) I can’t stand screens that look like an afterthought sticking up. Look at the picture above again, and imagine how much better it would be if that screen was built into the dash behind where it has been “stuck” .....

And the rear light looks terrible. I’m not a fan of it on the new Audi’s or the Terraco either (although the front of the terraco is very nice)

Dreading what the rest will look like

Think I’ll pass.

VW’s current approach seems to be replace as many ‘safe to use’ buttons, switches and knobs as possible, and replace them with touchscreens and touch pads that are more difficult to use on the move. Unfortunately, it’s not just VW though - most manufacturers seem to be going down this route, although some are sensibly retaining conventional controls for some of the more frequently used functions such as heating and ventilation and lighting.

IMO it shouldn’t be necessary to have to fumble around a touchscreen to access basic functions that would be easier and safer to operate with good old fashioned tactile buttons, switches and knobs. Is using a touchscreen any safer than illegally (in the UK) using a mobile phone touchscreen on the move? Probably not.

Touchscreens are probably cheaper for the car manufacturer to use than conventional controls, although customers will probably be charged a small fortune for a new screen if it fails out of warranty! The technophiles probably love them, and no doubt touchscreens are here to stay, but IMO car manufacturers need to strike a sensible balance between touchscreen technology and safer to use conventional controls.

I’m considering a current shape Polo GTI for my next car. If I do get one, I’d better make the move before it’s mid life facelift, as VW will no doubt remove as many of the current conventional interior controls as possible, and replace them with touchscreens!

Rant over...........

Agreed. Many people slating the current Leon interior saying it’s “dated” but I love it. It’s practical everything is in a good place and there’s dials and buttons which I think looks better and as you say is more practical and safer.

I think the TESLA only made auto pilot because of the basis that all the drivers are fumbling around their touch screen trying to turn the air con on so arent paying attention to the road

I've ordered a Leon FR black edition, I've been given a build date of 3rd of February. Will I likely get the new re-fresh model or am I one of the unlucky ones who will get a vehicle that's soon to be phased out; If so, what is the likelihood of free extras being added?

You will get a mk3 if that's what you've ordered, as for extras you would need to ask, it was your choice to order at the end of the mk3 run so they don't really owe you anything

It's not due out until Autumn. You'll get what you ordered and have about 6 months use before the new model hits the streets. The prices reflect the incoming model already and are very heavily discounted. I saved £9k on my Cupra when I bought it back in March knowing a new model was imminent. More than happy to have the older version at heavily reduced price.

Well, in that case, I'm not too fussed seeing its months away until the new model. Nevertheless, I'm happy with my order regardless of the MK4.
