How often do you service your Leon?

Purchased a Leon FR a month ago and the servicing has always been up to date along with the MOTs. Iv read and was told by the dealer to get the car serviced every 12k miles or 12 months which ever comes first.

I don’t do near 10k miles a year, but would you still get the car fully serviced when having the MOT done or do you just wait out for example the 12k miles then get the car serviced separate from the MOT check?

cheers

If your car if on a longlife service schedule just do it when the car tells you it needs doing, as soon as a service is done without longlife oil though you'll have to reset to a normal 10k/ every year.

My last MK2 Leon FR+ the specialist just said swap it out to 10k or every year, I constantly ran out of oil though and topped it up myself with non longlife oil also so it was easier not doing the longlife one. The same with my new MK3 Cupra, it was set up as a longlife from factory but where I bought it from has done a normal service so now its going to be every year because I do nowhere near 10k.

Your warranty is 3 years so its ran out.

MOT and service of a car aren't connected, its up to you if you want to do them both at the same time though, unless thats the timing of it already its just a waste of money doing an early service unless its some good deal to get both done.

Not Seat, but VW recommend their time and distance service regime rather than long life if you’re a lower mileage driver (covering less than 10k miles per year). I’m assuming Seat would be the same, although I couldn’t find anything on the Seat website.

I only drive around 6k per year, and my car is on the time and distance service regime which means it gets serviced at the sooner of 10k miles or 12 months, whichever is the sooner. I prefer only having to make one trip per year to the dealer for routine maintenance work. I’ve had my car from new, so it means it goes back to the dealer around the time of its ‘birthday’. It works for me, as servicing, MOT and any time specific (irrespective of mileage) jobs when they’re due, such as brake fluid changes are all in sync with other routine maintenance work.

If you really want to do both, just get it serviced again when you MOT it or delay the next service until MOT time and then you can carry on together.

If it's your own car then I'd say treat it as well as possible with a minimum of an annual oil change. Long Life was brought in to allow fleets to extend service intervals on high annual mileage cars so it really depends on what is appropriate for your use.
When service and MOT get out of sync I use somewhere convenient for the MOT alone.

Longlife is exactly as said above for high mileage fleet use where services every 10k miles are too much of an inconvenience. Plus usually they are just renting the car so don’t care about longevity. If it last 3 years then voila.

for a personal car best sticking to 10k miles or every year whichever comes first.

my leon is leased so is on longlife servicing. If it was my own car it would not be. However i’m not bothered as it is not my car and if it goes boom not my issue

That’s what I’m going to do I think MOT is due in July

Don't care about long life or mileage based servicing. All my cars get done annually regardless

Annually here. I do 15-16k miles a year, so am on the long service plan. But would never take it beyond a year anyway.

My little 1.2 SE 2014 uses so much oil, but still within Seat's spec (just), that I'm constantly topping it up... Therefore I don't think I ever have oil in the engine long enough to get dirty.

I'd do between 25K-30K a year. But wouldn't change it for the world. Its been really good to me and is so economical.....

Saying that I use any 504/507 LL oil and do my services every 15K. I'm on the extreme side of an oil change interval but my journeys are 98% motorways......

Im probably over the top on servicing when it comes to diesel cars and my 184 is no exception really.

Oil and filter every 6000 miles Mobile 1 ESP and Mann filter.
Every second oil change 12000 it also gets every other filter. Air, Fuel cabin.
Gearbox oil every 50000 as many of my cars end up with a family member and i keep up the servicing.
Brake Fluid every 3 year easy done with a pressure bleeder.
Coolant including flush every 2 years dont want the heater matrix blocking with crap.
Timing belt every 5 years although i no longer do these myself i assist my Seat specialist guy with it as bleeding the coolant system is a real pain and need VCDS.

Anything else as it breaks lol.

Changing the oil often with good quality oil is the single most important thing you can do if you want to keep your engine running well. Considering how little it costs to change the oil, you should always err on the side of doing it too often rather than not often enough.

It's a lease, so the absolute minimum of once in the three years I've got it. The oil currently looks like bitumen, but VW say that's fine and the lease company don't care.

What do peeps pay for a full service? I used Halfords auto centre just for the MOT on my Ibiza (previous car) and they charge £159 for the full lot including the MOT. Halfords is about 10 mins away so its perfect to book on a saturday/sunday, is that over priced?

Wouldn’t trust Halfords touching my car tbh
I get a family member to service (he is a mechanic). Problem is no records but that’s seats fault for making it online. Get an invoice and keep them in a folder.

Neither of them care because, by the time it takes its toll, neither of them are going to have to pay for it.

Out of warranty, I do all basic servicing myself. An oil change is not hard, if you have the space and the tools of course. I wouldn't trust Halfords to put a nut in a monkey's mouth. Halfords is like the Vauxhall Corsa, for people who know nothing about cars.

Im on a maintenance package i was sold it in the belief the car was on fixed services 10k / per annum. Turns out the car is on longlife services and the first one is due at 16k miles.

who in their right mind thinks 16k miles is acceptable on a brand new engine, should be first oil change at 5k imo. New engines loosen up so cannot be doing anything positive for the longevity of the engine. Seat don’t care nor do vw finance. So neither do i as it will 100% be going back to them. I don’t even bother letting the car warm up. Gets zero mechanical sympathy from me. They don’t care so i don’t care
