Had my rear hatch trim off for the 3rd time and finally found the nut that has been rattling like mad the last 2 months

Off to Euros in the early morning to avoid the sales traffic. Picked up the Brembo pads and after a spirited drive back, my suspicions were confirmed...

Leon_Brake_Sweep.JPG

Installed the new set of pads and hopefully the discs will clear a little more evenly now.

Interestingly enough, I checked for helper springs and it turns out I have them on one side (the side where I've had the problem) but not on the other. Is this going to cause me any problems? Not a problem buying another for the left side, but it just seemed odd that one side had one and the other didn't.

Cleaned the car afterwards too. Got that horrible misty rain when I was waxing, so I have no idea what it'll look like in the morning, but I haven't cleaned it since July, so anything's got to be better than how it was. Adds about 30bhp too if I recall...

Mamic172 surely with all the work going into it, it needs it's own thread?

It did have it's own threat but then I lost it lol so I just put it up on "What have I wasted my money on today" lol.
Like this morning 300 quid on tyres..... the thing isn't even painted let alone needing tyres. But they where cheap so they can go in to the big pile of bits

Just needed to have a rant.

After a pretty shoddy wax job last night while it was raining, I woke up and the car is gleaming - you'd never guess the car was fifteen years old.

Everything except the front and rear bumpers, and the bonnet. Guess which parts have been resprayed? The lacquer on the front bumper is flaking off, the bonnet paint is soft as **** and is covered in stone chips - even though before the respray I was doing 30k a year and nothing - and the rear bumper even needed to be repaired after it started flaking a couple of years after it was "repaired", and now it's split again.

All insurance jobs, so I had no choice in who did the work, and now these parts look dire and there's no way I can afford to get them all repaired properly.

I'm just so pissed off. The number of things I've had done in the past and people have just done shoddy jobs that I've ended up having to repair myself. If it was something that I'd done, that's fine, but when I've paid people a fortune to do these things, it's just too much.

Sorry.

Is there an option on insurance to pick your own workshop? I know in the USA I got to pick my own shop on a few occasions after getting a few quotes for repair.

Here in Germany you get a small discount on insurance if you let the insurance company pick the place. But I'd rather not.

It was a pretty hefty smack, and because the car was undriveable, the recovery truck took it to a lockup that was just around the corner from the repair place they used. It was the biggest company in town, and I think they do all their work with them. I think had I been able to drive it, I'd have had more of a choice - and this was a few years back as well and I didn't know as much about cars as I do now. You think the big repair shops are big because they do a good job... Definitely not true... I think they're closed now. They took about six months to do the repair - apparently because they couldn't get hold of a wiring harness. When I got it back the tyres were flat and they didn't bother putting any air in them.

In the end, I was just happy they didn't write the car off. She's still going strong today.
