Hi,first of all the car,its a 2008 red leon 2.0tfsi, it's got an apr remap and runs a dream,no problems with it so far,its quick enough 4 me, if it was 4 wheel drive id get the reddies out but that's another matter so 240bhp plus is quick enough for a front wheel drive car in my opinion for me, anyway its got the standard stereo ,not the upgraded seat sat nav unit ,I want a decent touch screen stereo ,kenwood, pioneer or Sony etc dont want out from China Japan or second hand I'm fussy I want it with sat nav ,blue tooth not bothered if its dab digital I've CD's or smooth radio or radio one floats my boat it must be reverse camera compatable as I want one fitted with it 2 ,I want the steering wheel controls to still work 2,I live in Manchester I dont know if I need single din double din or where to go,I've been used to driving bmws last few yrs but wanted a hot hatch 4 smiles, ain't got M3 MONEY either ,so if you know a reputable ice installer in Manchester who possibly builds ice installs and fits em or you can send me somewhere to look at a few 4 myself to pick n decide 4 myself I'd be truly appreciative thanks ,from a 46 yr old who loves his tunes and dont wanna hit out reversing as I've been used to sensors once again thnx

Aftermarket will cost more than the Seat Nav unit just be aware.

The unit itself will be several hundred quid, all the conversion cables and whatnot ontop will add more than you'd expect. Plus install fee's

I've seen a unit on Ebay, Sony with the fascia n wires for £400 its sold by bassjunkies in Wolverhampton or something looks good enough 4 what I need not sure if its reverse camera compatable or if it can be used to retain the steering wheel controls I emailed em ,but the reply I got was an absolute joke and theyve a fitting centre I'm not even going to repeat what they said but if I was the manager I'd sack him because that prats cost that company big money over the time he's been employed there and I'd sack who ever they dont employ to screen what there sending out because the reply was a joke im no auto electrician how the f..k am I expected to take the fascia off take the stereo out take shots of the wires it's a standard 2008 leon stereo it must be in 500000 Leon's in the UK ffs to be blunt if they cant advise me and give me options theyve not got a cat in hells chance of working on my car which cost peanuts really compared to todays hot hatch prices nor are they getting there hands on my money ,so if you've a mk2 leon and have upgraded your stereo 4 an android unit that's sold in the UK preferably, Sony, pioneer, kenwood,I do like kenwood s systems and also have had a reverse camera installed hit me up 4 a chat will you I'd be gratefully appreciated, ps I've £700 max

This is also Wolverhampton based... but I had the same experience as you. I couldn't find any decent shops with fitting in the West Midlands area. In the end, I got this guy in... he's done all of the electrical / stereo work on both my Leon's. Not sure if he'll travel to Manchester but worth an ask.

I fitted a rns510 for £250, this included all the necessary adapters, gps antenna, fascia. Fully working with steering wheel controls and the factory fitted aux works with the unit.

My RNS-315 was about the same money.

I needed a Fascia and a microphone for the handsfree as well, so maybe £280ish.

Original factory fit Nav units were RNS-510 and RNS-315.
They interface with the car properly, work with the lower USB and Aux-in port, work with the steering wheel controls (obviously) and don't usually need many extra adaptor wires.
The plastic dash Fascia that surrounds the stereo you can buy from Seat for about £20, you might need a microphone if your car doesn't have handsfree (cheap)

RNS-315:

Sat Nav, DAB Radio, Bluetooth handsfree, SD card slot all built into the unit.
Can take a reversing camera as long as it's got the correct rear connector

RNS-510:

Larger screen, Sat Nav.
Can take a reversing camera as long as it's got the correct rear connector
DAB and handsfree aren't usually built in, come as extra modules

Why does it need to be new?

There's loads of used units on eBay, I've not heard of many people having problems with them.

The most recent map update is circa 2017 which is annoying, there have been more recent maps released but there's a bug in the UK maps and they don't work.
VW can't be bothered to fix the problem and keep pushing out the same broken map packs.

I was/am quite annoyed about this. However I rented a 69 plate Mokka X (not my choice) and decided to use the built in satnav to get me to Cambridge. For those that don't know, they've moved the A14 about 5 miles to the left. So the satnav showed me driving through black for about 15 miles. So I guess there's no winning unless you use something like Google Maps (which is kept always up to date).

On another note. I have the RNS315. Which is alright. Obviously it has all the integration with the car and sub fitted to it as well for no extra hassle. I wanted an Android unit and looked at Kenwood and Pioneer units up to about £800-900 each. But all of them seemed to have quite negative reviews (for reliability / crashing). So I've never got any further than that.

Yea, but to be fair that stretch of the road opened in December 2019 and the whole project is still under construction.

So you can forgive the sat nav for not having that one on there.

Ok then I'm sold I'll source a used rns315 ,thnx guys ,dont suppose any1 of you know a decent reversing camera to go with it do you ? Also I've gone through all the history and theres nearly 7k of receipts from awesome GTI in Manchester so I'm going to book it in 4 a full service they advertise for an extra £28 they'll use Miller's nano drive oil ? Does it matter ? Is it worth the extra 30 quid ? And thnx 4 all the replies there truly appreciated, I've took the car out twice now n f..k me does it shift the apr remap must have done wonders it's a lot quicker than my old GTI apparently it is switchable through the stork as its tuned to run on super unleaded from shell or Tesco's so I brimmed it 2day for £48 bargain it drives like it's done 20,000 nice n tight I'm impressed to say the least ,log book arrived today it is a tsi not tfsi I'm not going to go 4 more power I'm more than pleased with it ,any1 else found a 2008 leon 2.0tsi fr a poor mans GTI with 62000 miles 7k history 2 cambelt changes and professionally lowered on sports shocks n springs n remapped 4 £3750 ,I honestly believe it's worth 5k in my eyes what's your opinions ?

Rightly or wrongly unfortunately they are over shadowed alot of the time by the GTI. Badge snobbery can come into it and people do prefer the slightly better interior and refined ride the gti has over the leon.

The Gti badge has a large following and the mk5 is a great car and worthy of the Gti badge in a way that the mk4 and somewhat mk3 golfs were not.

The price you paid is about right for the car.

A gti with that history, mileage etc would be worth £5k+, that is what makes the leon a great buy.

I honestly do not think you'd find one looked after as good as this 4 the money the previous owner must have had ocd, full seat and specialist service history 62000 in 12 yrs 11 services last 7 at awesome gti and 7k in receipts and credit card receipts plus the upgrades , remap etc etc. possibly 3750 4 a standard one but this has low miles full history sleeper looks but goes like stink im happy infact i think its up there with one of my best buys as i get older i refuse to spend more than 15k on a car now but ill drive this till it dies i think im impressed 4 the money 4 sure big smiles it pulls n pulls its deffo a seriously good car , i had it mini valeted Wednesday hand polished and its black already after 40 miles lol i would love some decent mud flaps 4 it nothing massive that says look at me but something that keeps it a little cleaner 4 longer

I always use miller's nanodrive. And r-tech recommend it for mapped cars. Not sure why. But also they suggest using 5w40 as opposed to the manuals 5w30 due to the hotter running temps.

Ok I'll spend the extra 30 quid then on the millers seen as though it's been mapped the cars hardly done any miles since the last service as the gents misses had there 1st child and they used hers 4 travelling in and he lost his parking spot at work so he started to get the train into Manchester to get to work but it's nearly a yr since the last service so to keep the history up and the annual service up to date I'll get it done 4 peace of mind thnx 4 replying it's much appreciated
