So, I've had this car less than a month and today ended up nailing flood water at 60ish mph (It was dark and the kn*b head coming through it decided to flash me so couldn't see it.)

So, after assessing the damage and picking leaves, bottles and juice cans out from places they shouldn't be - noticed that the engine is making these noises:

As well as that, front bumper is slightly cracked, the horn is a very high pitched muffled mess and the brakes are grinding/squealing.

So, based on the engine noises above, do you think its dead / dying?

Any help would be greatfull.

about up to the bottom of the bumper?
We've all done it. Your engine does sound rattly but if you have no warning lights on the dash, I would run it until everything dries out a bit before a garage visit

That clicking noise comes from the dpf solenoid and is normal.
May be it took in some water but the airfilter box should have drain hole in the bottom.
Likely the paper airfilter element is wet, to be safe replace it, should not be expensive.
You could check by removing some hoses coming from the turbo into the intercooler and further up to the intake if there is water or other debris.
Consider an engine oil change just to sure. Remove the oil drain plug, do not pump it out via the dipstick tube.

I can't hear anything unusual in the videos... these engines make loads of weird noises. Mine sounds pretty much like that. Do you have an undershield on the car? That should stop most of the water and rubbish hitting anything. Just have a look round and make sure no pipes or anything have come off. But if you have an undershield, I wouldn't be greatly worried. If you have an OBD device scan it and see if any of the sensors are off. But I doubt it would have damaged anything mechanical.

Water up to bumper should be fine, air filter is at grille height so you shouldn’t of taken any water in.

reset codes and stop worrying

The car will hold the codes so when you hit the puddle some water may of made its way in and caused the slight misfire, once dried out the codes will remain until reset.

Reset them and see how it drives and check them again.

In the video, you can hear some misfires but I believe it is just because of moisture or water somewhere.
Open up the airfilter and see if it is wet, take it out and dry it.
Afterwards change the oil and take it out for a long drive to properly heat up the engine.

Did this in my Ibiza when it rained bad in Sheffield last year I wouldn’t worry, it’s a smaller car and huge puddles ended up been alright once dried out

I know it’s easier said than done

update, cleared all the codes - took it for an hour drive, got it up to temperature etc

Engine still sounds kinda rickety BUT no EML (not that that showed to being with) or codes have came back

Does that mean im fine? its no flooded even though it still sounds like crap? kinda at a loss here :(

Sound fine, would check your air filter like people mentioned but leave it a week or so and see how the noise is or any other faults.

Here as well in the Netherlands... pretty windy

It really need to take in a lot of water to get instant damage, I believe this not the case here.
If the airfilter is still in one piece then no debris entered the turbo and further up to the engine.
I don't know how far you are of from a regular service but consider to change it anyway and like I said before consider changing the oil, just to be sure you are not running an oil/water mixture.

yea - this is our 3rd storm (2nd flood) in the space of 7 days! its crazy - an entire side of a building collapsed into the river the 1st time!

and yea, im gnna check the filter tomorrow, gnna remove the spark plugs to see if they are moist

As for a service, bought the car less than a month ago and it was serviced then, but after ive checked everything, will get it booked into a garage to get the oil drained and filled

Provided its nothing to major, will get them to strip the brakes and clean them as well as i was picking a lot of shite out from the visible bits

I just dont seem to have much luck with cars ha!
