Great video! Will be using it when I pick up my new car!

I've used the same stuff on my current 290 for the rear bench and boot. Wanted to do the doors but never got round to it.

Also wanting to do the rear wheel arches.

Glad that you like it !
Keep in mind that each door takes about 2-4 hours (1st door took me 4 hours and the 2nd took me 2 hours cause I already knew what to do) though I am sure it will take less time when you do it with the video (I had to figure everything myself)
Let me know if you get any bumps on the way that I didn't mention in the video ;)

A tip for the clips - they actually set in 2 stages, and if you look carefully them you can see an area between the two 'discs' at the back of them. Wedge a trim tool in there and that'll pop them apart slightly, lining up the white bits at the other end up into a point. Then when you bang them back in it squeezes the discs together and splays the white tip out locking them. This is how you get the ones stuck in the door out without breaking them.

I am getting lots of messages about the glue type and how to make the sponge to stay put..
Ask from a local store next to your place for a glue who can glue acoustic sponge to plastic and (if needed in your country) be able to resist high tempertures.
Cut the sponge as you like it's not an exact science .. my advice - cut it about 1 inch bigger than the shape you need and then just squeeze it in.
Good luck guys let me know if you have any more questions !

Hi all,

Sorry to being back an old thread.

Currently in the process of soundproofing my doors and following all the great advice on here.

One question for those who have done this, did you replaced all the trim clips even the ones which look ok after removing the door card?

Bit of a mistake in my part and didn't quite order enough for both doors but if I replace only the ones that look broken I can get this done today :)

I managed to save all my clips as I knew about the trick to open and close them, a couple have lost the odd claw (near the tip) but they will be fine used higher up where less tension is needed, I have actually fitted my door cards back on with no clips at all just yet to give the foam time to settle somewhat if that makes any sense? and also to make sure there are no issues with my new speakers fitted.. I really don't want to have to remove the cards unnecessarily as something will eventually break on the door plastics! good design but not with maintenance in mind!

I used Silentcoat for the deadening, have done for years it's very good stuff and not too expensive.

Wow you have used a lot of material! Looks a way better job that I did! Have to say even though I used less material the difference is night and day, rattles are gone, speakers sound better and the door feels a lot more premium when shutting.

I ended up replacing all the clips in the end, means I have to wait until more come to do the drivers side but as I have done it once now it doesn't phase me as much.

What new speakers did you go for? Focal upgrade?

Been thinking about new speakers myself but trying to keep it simple on my leon compared to my previous cars which all had a full soundsystem install.

I always like to go overkill with deadening, especially since these are 8" standard woofers so reduces the chances of any vibrations, also did the actual door skin but forgot to take pics of that stage! again, as much as my clumsy hands could get into!

I used Focals for the A pillar builds which I have built during lockdown period and trimmed in matching Alcantara I had lying around, yes, unbelievably 100% match!

as for door speakers, I have used Phase Linear Aliante 8's as I wanted to take advantage of the 8" offerings.

That A pillar trim looks great! Suits the car very well and having matching Alcantara laying around is just

As helpful as this forum is it gets so many more ideas into my head that I can't afford or have time to do lol

I do wish I had done some more deadening but with what have a used and a full sound proofing covered door card the results are already impressive!

Does anyone have the part numbers of the clips for the door trim? I’d rather have some ready before I even attempt this - y’know, just in case it gets to the point of Hulk rage and ripping the thing off...

I was also thinking of upgrading the speakers in mine whilst doing this - I’ve got Beats Audio at the moment but it doesn’t quite hit the spot.

I used part number 7L6868243 and they fit my 2016 FR no prob, £3.65 of ebay for 10, 10 will do one front door on an SC if you replace all the clips.

Definitely get some before doing this, from what I have read and from my personal experience some will break on removal.

Hi all, I’ve always been into car stereo and have never had a car with a non standard set-up but I’\’m questioning whether I neeed to mess around with the set-up in my 2014 Leon FR 184 SC.
Is there a way of telling what size door speakers I have fitted without taking the panels off?
