Hi SEAT CUPRA Community!:flag:

(This is my first post)
As suggested in the title, I have a 2019 SEAT Leon Cupra on a lease. Unfortunately, its got the dreaded PFF Filter and doesn't sound as good, supposedly as the previous years.
Now, if I get a resonator delete will it breach my leasing contract, generically speaking? I've heard its reversible. Please can you reply to this thread or alternatively private message me?

Cheers!

Hi - welcome to the forum. I had a res delete on my lease CUPRA 300 and SEAT were ok with it as long as I assured them it would be returned to stock afterwards. I'd suggest ordering yours from one of our sponsors who will look after you :) https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php#seatcupra-net-sponsors-trading-area.127

Cheers,

Hi Syphon,

I appreciate the reply. I got it through a third party - leasing.com, will I have to contact them? or is it seat?

Kind Regards,

Hi,

Hmm, I'd check the paperwork. Have you had all the SEAT package through? what do to in a breakdown etc? Depends who technically owns the car I suspect (which might be the leasing company). My lease was through a SEAT Dealer.

For reference, Mine is Hire Purchase. I have to declare all modifications to the car. It's up to them to decide whether they will allow it. Ultimately if it reduces the value of the car at the end of the lease, they are unlikely to let you do it, or charge you to revert the car back to stock.

You can always negotiate with them as @Syphon says and ask them to include a variation in your contract stating that you will reinstate any modifications. This is a fairly common clause in lease agreements, especially in property. You will need to negotiate with the finance company, not Leasing.com as it is ultimately the finance company that own the car, not you.

As previously stated in another thread. Think about it from their point of view. You've lent someone a car, would you be happy with them modifying it with the modifications you want? IF the answer is no, perhaps consider whether the modification is really needed.

For something like the exhaust, this may not actually covered under warranty (check your paperwork) . It is possible a res delete would not void a warranty claim by default which would add to your argument for allowing such a mod.

EDIT: I would point out, failure to notify/ask permission for any modifications will be in breach of your contract and will allow the finance company to repossess the car, or recover the full invoice price of the car from you.

Hi Syphon,

How did you go about querying this with them? My Cupra is leased directly through a Seat Dealer and I was looking to do something along the same lines and assure them that it would be returned to stock before the end of the agreement? If you emailed them/sent a letter do you still have the wording that you could message to me? My agreement says any modifications would need to be agreed by SEAT in writing before they were carried out.

Thanks

hi - I just phoned SEAT finance and asked if they minded me fitting it if I returned it to stock at the end of the lease. They said that was fine, sent me a letter confirming "sports exhaust". I think there might have been an admin fee to pay (can't remember). I told the insurance as well which didn't change the premium which was nice :)

Has anyone else contacted their Lease company yet? I’m going to call tomorrow (Lease Plan).

Will update then.

Found a de-res pipe on eBay for £70.

I'd not worry too much about removing it before it goes back at the end of the term as my 300 st cupra 4drive has it still on even though it was a lease car for the previous owner. Didn't know it was fitted when I picked it up from the garage nor did the sales or service department.

Well, this is the response back..

It’s not illegal. Any ideas how to respond?

Well that's just totally incorrect. Removal of a catalytic converter would mean MOT failure on emissions, but not removal of a resonator or silencer.
The mid silencer (that isn't even there on the new GPF'd ST) is there to attenuate a particular dominant engine firing frequency. The rear silencer is a 'broad-spectrum' frequency attenuator for the rest. Their answer is wrong.
