I expect the first question people will need to know is what year are you looking at, spec changes at differrent times, eg the MY20 cupra has 2 trim levels and 2 options, thats it.

Might be worth saying if you want 3 door (SC), 5 door or estate (ST) and manual or DSG? plus as above the year or a budget. IMO they come well specced as standard so I never bothered with any extras. Winter pack if you want heated seats, SEAT sound if you like music and want a better sound! If you're buying used then you've got limited choice as a lot of cars don't have that many options when I looked. The later cars get bigger Nav screens, get 2018 on and you'll get the digital cockpit which is nice but not essential IMO. Also colour can determine things as some colours where not available for long or only from certain years, my personal favourite is Alor blue but it got discontinued so when I ordered only Mystery Blue was available which I like. Desire red is lovely IMO but only came on later cars, 300's I think?

I want to spend at most 14k, looking for a 3 door, unsure about the gearbox but DCC sounds like a must for me, don't think I would want more than 50k max on the clock!

DCC is standard on Cupra 280/290/300, although I'm not sure about the 265 model but there's not many of them and it was discontinued in the UK fairly early on. I had a 280, no options and a great car. Just pick the colour you want, find one with mileage and good condition and go for it, I wouldn't bother about options, if you find one with some then bonus.

I had a manual 280 sc which was a fun car.
It was basically stock apart from the upgraded wheels and Android auto.

Moved to a 290 MY19 5dr DSG.
I was lucky enough to add loads of options to this car (before they removed the ability)

The single best thing for me is the DSG box. Would never go back to a manual now. The DSG provides a better balance for my city life driving habits.

Test drive both gearboxes if you can. In all honesty it took more than a test drive to appreciate the DSG for what it is, but its definitely worth trying them both.

Whoever gets this car when I return it next year is going to be very happy.
