ST easily big enough for us (we have 2 kids) - I don't even really fill the boot, let alone a roof box, when on holiday.

But then when the kids were really small, and we had big pushchairs etc as well, we still coped fine with just a mk5 Golf, so maybe we just travel relatively light.

Hello all, just an update.

One of my friends went overseas and left me his MK7 Golf GTi Performance, which was truly a great car. Interior was very well built and it was just a very nice car to be sat in; moreover, I figured out that the boot size is more than enough for our needs. So I went ahead and ordered a brand spanking new factory built Leon Cupra that is due to arrive at the end of this month, so I'm well buzzing! I went with Nevada White as I've never owned one before and always had dark colours that were a pain to maintain. Can't wait for it to arrive.

On a separate note, can you guys advise about the break-in period. Is it still 1k miles grant style before you can unleash the beast?

Break in is 1000km according to the manual.

Engine wise for me its once the engine oil is up to temp :) For everything else (ie brakes), 500 miles.

But as @Kirky says, manual says 1,000 miles.

However, personally a bit sceptical of these 'default' messages, when after a break in period in the past, you'd change the oil. Don't do this with most engines these days.

I agree, I think the statement in the manual is generic. I think it's the same for all Leons independent of engine size or type. I just took it easy anyway just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I think its more treat the car with some mechanical sympathy, which you should anyway, but more so on bed in. However as the engines are bedded in before being fitted these days, its more for the brakes and tyres :)

Biggest issue is making sure you keep the Revs varied as much as possible when new, and always ensure engine oil is warm, whether at 100 miles or 100,000.

That's very interesting to hear, thanks for sharing. I was under the impression that these mass production cars would normally all be dyno tested and/or have some sort of a test before released for sale.

I would take it easy for the first 500 miles either way due to tyres / brakes. Then I'll unleash the beast slowly but gradually. I'm so excited!

I agree. I know how important it is to bed in tyres and brakes from riding motorbikes. I've made the mistake of taking a brand new set of tyres and ragging it out of the garage. I won't do that ever again. That was an expensive and embarrassing lesson to learn.
