    Keyless Entry system installation

The wiring diagram has the remote control for the keyless entry wired to the same circuit that goes from the central locking pump to each door. That means you should be able to wire your keyless entry system either to the pump, left door or right door, they are all on the same electrical system...

    Keyless Entry system installation

The wires coming from both doors would be the "trigger" to unlock/lock the doors when the key is turned. This would be the wire that I would connect your keyless system to. I've got a wiring diagram somewhere. I'll check it and see which colour wire you should be connecting to. Cheers Paul

    Parts from another country

Sad to hear. You need a Cupra to fill in the gap. :D Photo taken at the VW Nationals in Sydney a few months ago.

    Parts from another country

What parts are you after? I've got a 16v Cupra for spares as well as another as my daily and I'm thinking of buying a 8v GTI for parts so might be able to help you out. I'm down near Canberra. Cheers Paul

cross another GTi off 'how many left'

It's the same in Australia. My Cupra is worth more for parts to modify a MK1 or 2 Golf. Not even worth using as a trade-in as the dealers don't know what it is and won't touch them.

    Seat Ibiza mk2

Where are you? MK2 uses most parts from a MK3 Golf (motor, gearbox, front suspension). Rear end is from a VW Polo.

    Parts from another country

Front end is all MK3 Golf - motor, gearbox, suspension. Rear end is Polo. Everything is interchangeable so you shouldn't have any problems finding parts. Where in Oz are you? Cheers Paul

Alarm going off when opening door

How did you go? I've got the same problem with my 98 model and disconnected the horn so it wouldn't upset anyone. I can still start the car if I press the alarm button on the keyfob a few times to turn the alarm off but tracking down the cause is proving to be quite difficult.

    My Aussie 1998 MK2 Ibiza 16v

I bought this last week and drove it 500 ks home. Great drive, so much fun and I couldn't believe how quick I got home. It's got a H&R Cup Kit so handles pretty well together with extractors, big bore exhaust, Garlock EPROM, adjustable cam gear and fantastic brakes. I...

    8v vs 16v

I picked it up last night and drove 500ks home. An absolute blast to drive and no problem driving in traffic. Who said ABF 16v's have no low down power? This one's got it in buckets full.

    8v vs 16v

She's done 100,000 miles but had a top end rebuild 3 years ago and I know the 2 previous owners from the Aussie VW forum. Springs, shocks, disks and pads were replaced back in 2013. For $2400 it's a bargain considering MK2 Golf GTI's go for double that plus I can now put to good use all the...

    8v vs 16v

I'm really envious as all those cars except the VR6 are really rare in Australia. I know of only 1 Rallye here and I don't know of any MK3's. There's probably less than 50 MK2's in the whole country. Just for fun I'm going to stick some VW Polo badges on it and call it a 2 door Polo (it's the...

    8v vs 16v

Here's what I'm picking up next week. That headlining and door trim has to go and I'll hit the seats with some black leather colour changer. There's a few bits I want to swap from my spare parts car which is an ex track weekend racer. Should make for a fun toy.

    8v vs 16v

I still like driving fast. My kids (twins) are only 15 so I drive them to school. Hard to deny to the wife that I was speeding when my daughter shows a vid she took on her phone over my shoulder and the speedo is sitting on 130ks.

    Gearbox? Gear Linkages?

Check at the gearbox end that they don't bind in any way. Probably easier if you have someone inside the car work the gears and you look to see what's happening at the gearbox. You may also need to check the cables at the gearshift don't have anything restricting movement. Also check that the...

100k mile mk3 cupra, safe to remap?

You sure about this? Usually it's high revs that damages the rod. The big end bolts snap under the increased load resulting in a rod floating around and then bent by the crank. Opening the throttle at low revs just allows more fuel/air into the engine. Of course if you've got a defective...
