  1. Vagcom/vcds

The £10 cable I bought in 2016 still works. VCDS Lite is alright for reading codes & checking some settings. Had to source an older full version to check the fuel pump timing. Still only cost me £10 in total so I'm not complaining...
  2. Vagcom/vcds

Cost me under £10 to get VCDS Lite working on a Windows laptop. Using a clone cable from ebay. It allows you to read most things & even activated my cruise control with it. Then need to check the fuel pump timing on my TDI which it won't do.
  3. Leon MK1 Cruise Control Guide - Pic Heavy

You can use VCDS to check the brake pedal switch. But that also works the lights so not much point. Cruise control also needs a switch on the clutch pedal, you can check if you have one with VCDS.
  4. Leon MK1 Cruise Control Guide - Pic Heavy

I'd recommend doing it when the car is stopped. Pressing the brake with your left foot when the car is moving is a good way of headbutt the steering wheel ...
  5. Leon MK1 Cruise Control Guide - Pic Heavy

You're welcome, there's a lot of extra wiring and ECU coding that would've been done when the car was built. This needs to be there to easily fit cruise control yourself. I'm not sure if your car has it. The first thing to check is if pressing the brake pedal makes the engine revs drop to...
  6. Leon MK1 Cruise Control Guide - Pic Heavy

I think only turbo cars can have cruise control fitted. If you don't have a black plug under the windscreen I don't think your car can. To test, hold the engine at 2,000 revs & press the brake pedal. If the revs drop you've got an electronic controlled throttle & you can fit cruise control...
  7. Arl rough start up

Does sound fuel pressure related, seem to remember the PDs may have 2 fuel pumps? Could also try changing the fuel filter.
  8. Leon MK1 purchase

No one can give you a detailed list of what you'd have to repair/replace. I've had my Leon 14 years, some years it's only cost me £40 in oil & filters. Other years it's cost me well over £500. I've hardly used it this year because of lockdowns but so far its had: Coil spring at the MOT...
  9. Leon MK1 purchase

The mk1 Leon, mk2 Toledo, mk1 Skoda Octavia, mk4 golf and mk1 Audi A3 are all the same car underneath just with different bodies on them. All are part of the VAG group & share engines. They're solid enough cars & shouldnt have any rust apart from Golf front wings. If there is a lot of rust then...
  10. 1.4 TSI Act cambelt nightmare

Surely valve contact wouldn’t have done that to a piston? That’s either been overheated or put under a lot of stress. Anyone know if that engine has oil cooler pistons? My guess would still be timing, the spark firing too early while it was still on the compression stoke. It wouldn’t need to be...
  11. 1.4 TSI Act cambelt nightmare

I also had a rod fail on a Peugeot 18 years ago, ended up having to replace the engine at my cost. Which is why I switched to Seat when I finally replaced the car. Hope things turn out better for you, at least you have a single garage to deal with my only option was going direct to Peugeot. I’m...
  12. Easy/Quick/Cheap fix for doors not locking?

Good to hear it passed, yes the 1.9 TDIs are crazily cheap to run. Really not looking forward to when I'll have to scrap mine. Had it longer than I've know the wife lol
  13. Passenger side crash sensor location.

You're welcome - under the seat would also be my guess. But it's worth checking before pulling seats out. Yes door seals along with locks are a very common problem with these cars. Had a small swimming pool in my Leon after replacing a door lock.
  14. Passenger side crash sensor location.

I'm guessing you have a MK2, if so they're the same as the MK1 Leon & MK4 Golf. Not sure where it would be. But if you did a Google search on the MK4 Golf that should tell you where it is.
  15. Easy/Quick/Cheap fix for doors not locking?

I now have a spare driver's lock, it wouldn't unlock a couple of months after replacing the front passenger lock. While doing research on how to force the door open. Someone asked 'you've tried the key in door haven't you?' Well I did & the door opened. Great I thought at least I don't have...
  16. 1.8 20vt or 1.9TDI?

You're welcome, given the amount of kms a petrol would be a better choice. On turbo cars tuning is normally referred to as stage 1, 2, 3 & 4. Stage 1 is a simple remap. The 1.8t is a strong engine and a well serviced example won't have many problems with it. The further stages need parts...
  17. 1.8 20vt or 1.9TDI?

Depends on a number of things, the availability of the cars in your area & if you're planning on tuning it - having a local garage than knows the engine type very well. Sadly we never got the V6 in the UK. That would've been an interesting car, I believe they were 4 wheel drive. Either would...
  18. Easy/Quick/Cheap fix for doors not locking?

Replaced the front passenger door lock at the start of lockdown. A fairly easy job if you do them before they fail completely and dead lock. Cost about £20 for the module & around 2 hours of my time. I still had some butyl tape from the last time I did the door seals. It's do-able if you DIY...
  19. Undertray/engine/Gearbox guad

Lost? They should just own up & say they broke it, was thrown in the rubbish or fitted to another car. You can get them on eBay but unsure of the quality but if they're paying get an official one. Either at a dealer or somewhere like TPS. Fairly sure they're the same was the MK4 golf ones...
  20. Water on door sills.

I've been battling with door seals on my Leon for 13 years. Yes silicone normally lasted until a frost then leaks. Swtiched to Butyl tape & that has lasted years. But had a leak even with Butyl tape recently. I'd taken the door apart to replace the lock. Even took it apart again to put more...
