Yep the 1.4 16v is low powered and old school, but fairly reliable, and less to go wrong. Didnt know the gearboxes were weak, must have had some abuse at some point. Did you look at just getting used gearbox fitted, would have been less than £800.

Its not unheard for the chains to have to be changed on these engines, they can get rattly without regular oil changes.

The boot maybe big, but the back seat space is no bigger than the standard Ibiza hatch. If you want to get a rear facing childseat in the back, the front seat passengers have to sit with their faces on the windscreen! Its a practical small estate, just not very good for kids, a Rapid or...

Did ours after 6 years, 28k miles and it was still fairly clean also. Guess it depends how dusty and dirty the environment you drive in is?

Buy yourself an OBD reset tool, from about £20 on Ebay.

We did ours at 4 years approx 25000 miles, as it does low mileage. £299 at Seat.

Not to difficult, ours regularly sees 50mpg on a long run.
