It turned out to be knackard turbo...

I've looked in the top intercooler pipe and only has a slight bit of oil in the pipe

So if I take exhaust off and see signs of oil this would point straight to turbo seal failure?

How did you figure out it was the turbo before changing it?

A mechanic has looked at the car today and said he doesn't think it's the turbo, he wants to do a pressure test on the head Friday morning, he said the revs seem to drop slightly as the smoke starts whilst ticking over.. car still runs perfectly and doesn't smoke whilst running.

Could it damage anything by still using the car if it is the turbo that is failing?

How much is a turbo rebuild pal and are you fitting it your self?

Spoke to a vag specialist today, he said try bypassing the turbo by connecting the air flow meter to the inlet manifold?? Not really sure how that would work... and another guy from a different garage said try doing an engine flush and put some decent oil in.. then spoke to a vag tuning place...

Is there anyway of testing things to find out for certain what's causing this?

Coolant is clean and no mayo in the oil, only had the water pump and cambelt changed a couple of months ago as the water pump failed.

It doesn't lose any water from coolant , does use a bit of oil not much tho to be fair... But the smoke does smell as if it's burning oil

The code is p1296 I've Google it and changed the most common thing coolant sensor.. still no luck when cruising in 5th or 6th the temp will drop really low.. I'm guessing thermostat is my next option? Are these an easy job on Leon's? Cheers for any help

I recently had engine emissions light come on, on my leon mk1 1.8t so I plugged in my sealey code reader and read the code and it came up manufacturer control can anyone shed any light on what this code means, cheers.
