I have the 1.2L petrol but had same symptoms as the OP. In the end I was using 1L every 500 Miles. Had a complete engine strip down and needed valve stem seals changing along with the piston rings... Namely the oil scraper ring as this was clogged up not allowing any oil back into the...

So I finally had my valve stem seals replaced........and some.... Went into shop and had head removed and inspected... They said the valve stem seals were worn but bad enough to cause the amount of oil consumption and oil ingress into the cylinder heads as I was getting. So I agreed for them...

Yeah I will do.. I'm expecting the car to fail the MOT next month on its emissions (due to excessive oil burning/consumption), so thats when I'll be getting it done... [emoji1303]

Have the same issue with mine. Never did find the fault... Some people have changed the stalk. More on this here...

I use 5w40 and makes no difference in oil consumption... And I too am doing 120 miles a day, motorway driving. To and from work.....

Back when I thought I had a rattle coming from the rear seat, it turned out to be the boot latch. So I did the same as what you've just done and wrapped a couple of layers of electrical tape around the cylindrical part of the boot latch.. Fixed my rattle... Wouldn't hurt to check this area out....

I have 1.2 tsi and the inside of my petrol cap says use super premium. So thats what i's does! Car drives better for it.
