  1. Leon MK3/5F Front Bumper Removal Guide

In the end I had to get the bumper off and get the broken top grille out. It would have been very very difficult without the bumper removal but you don't know until you try it. I've reused the grille frame (also fiddly with all the opposing clips) and I've put the new grille on with a copper...
  2. Leon MK3/5F Front Bumper Removal Guide

I'm struggling to remove the plastic rivet (clip?) that joins the top of the black plastic grille to the coloured bumper (one each side). I can't even get under it to prise it up. Anyone know how to remove it as I need to replace my grille? Thanks. I've attached a picture from above the left...
  3. be on your guard

Those dimensions got me thinking that just the barrels would be a formidable weapon. Short enough and heavy enough to wield usefully, as well as intimidating when poked through a letter box (maybe not in cartoons).
  4. Wheel & Tyre Size Change - Cupra 300

Just mind out if you have the Performance Pack larger brakes as only certain 18" wheels will fit. Search the thread referring to winter wheels/tyres. Also you might find a saving between 225 and 235 section width. This was the case when I got my 18" Conti AllSeason Contacts, where I defaulted...
  5. Leon MK3/5F Front Bumper Removal Guide

Thanks Damo. That helps massively, but it looks like there are two bolts which he counts round about 2 mins in - and no aero flares! I'll have to investigate more, but I did manage to get a few more feathers out last time. Fortunately I left the top black trim and clips off to save time (and...
  6. Leon MK3/5F Front Bumper Removal Guide

I had a look at mine but following a youtube video on an FR. Anyone know if the "awkward" T20 shown as a shape on the photo is underneath the aero flare (don't know what else to call it) on a Cupra? The video glossed over that bit and all I could see internally was a hole in the bodywork that...
  7. 19” winter wheels for Brembos - Cupra ST300 4Drive Carbon

Yes ET42 (however achieved) for 8 x 18 ProRace 1.2 which have a minimum internal radius of 208mm to clear calipers. Not an issue with19s. Just refitted mine at the weekend as the PS4Ss were a bit grippier than I expected.
  8. Tyre snow grips

Mostly agree, but don't forget that all-seasons can give you a longer operational window. I've got them on my Cupra and would pick another car if there's any settling snow - mainly because I'm precious about my carbon splitter. It also means they're a bit less squirmy on the warmer days. Some...
  9. Cupra MY19 winter tyres & wheels

I like the Belt & Braces approach. Bimecc supply/supplied Team Dynamics/Rimstock with their fitting kits, and as TD/R are an OEM I was happy enough using their products too. Running VW group cars for over 25 years I've acquired plenty of sets of wheels - to the point that my garage is half...
  10. Cupra MY19 winter tyres & wheels

To be honest I've kept with silver to match the standard length bolts on the rear. These have seen service on 3 cars so are more grey than silver, like the graphite wheels. I haven't tried caps as I don't think they'd fit, and the winter look is a bit more "functional" than aesthetic anyway.
  11. Cupra MY19 winter tyres & wheels

Well spotted - M14. Trying to input info too quickly while typing illicitly at work. ;) Just edited original to correct and avoid confusion. My 19s are 235 so I didn't consider a decrease in section width when calculating the conversion and only found out the 225s were cheaper after I'd fitted...
  12. Cupra MY19 winter tyres & wheels

235/40 18 Contis (225s are cheaper) on ET45 8x18 Team Dynamics ProRace 1.2 with 3mm spacers (and longer M14 x 1.5 x 30mm tapered bolts) on front to clear PP Brembos. All declared to insurer. (Edited M14 to correct in case you don't read on...) ET40 same design wheels would clear without...
  13. Long life servicing and prices

My 1st service was charged at £209 and they wouldn't budge on it. No problem this time for me since they were really good accommodating me before handover last year. What annoyed me was the disguising of £16.67+VAT for "Service care & Tyre" which the person on service said was "free" when...
  14. All Season Tyres - Vredestein Quatrac Pro

...unless you go for a conversion size where there's plenty of choice. 245/45 18" on mine just now. Even 235/55 17 winters have seen the speedo match GPS and my insurers were told.
  15. Looking to buy a Leon x-perience and open to advice

Looks OK, but with your experience of Skoda have you considered a Scout? I'd be tempted to get better tyres for farm tracks in all weathers and maybe higher profile ones (with or without smaller wheels).
  16. 370mm Brembo Brakes and 18 Inch Wheels

Tidying up today I found a note of the minimum internal dimensions of the Team Dynamics ProRace 1.2 in 18". Diameter of 416mm (which fits) is easier to compare with other wheels than guessing where the dead centre is. These came from reference to technical info at Rimstock (manufacturer). My...
  17. Hit and run whilst parked - Weekend Ruined!

If you can live with it for now, I'd be tempted to leave the SMART repair until before you return the car. Perhaps take a few more photos and if necessary try a ChipEx kit and then something like https://autoglassbodyrepair.co.uk/mobile-repairs/what-we-can-repair before the VWFS inspection as...
  18. Having “the talk” with our kids....

I thought that's what Damo was on about in post #5. :)
  19. New Tyre Time

There's a (Scandinavian?) review on Tyrereviews from an ST 290 driver comparing against some Pilot Super Sports. I interpreted the F1SSs as being close to the PS4Ss (plural and no apostrophe ;)), but that doesn't really help since they weren't what he changed to the F1SSs from. I was had the...
  20. 370mm Brembo Brakes and 18 Inch Wheels

Ah, I just thought they machined the bolt "wells" (whatever they're really called) deeper into the forged wheel to compensate and allow standard length bolts (OK - conical versus radiused shoulders) to be used. I wasn't overly concerned at my 3mm difference with weekly torque checks for peace...
