OK, disconnected battery, left for 15 min. then reconnected, fan not running now, what is likely cause? thanks

just done about 40 mile at reasonably high revs, left it to tickover on the drive when I got back, turned off, then 1 minute later fan has started again and has now been 5 minutes at full speed again, sounds like it's stuck on full? goes off with ignition turned on (don't have to start engine)...

Just drove home from work (about 32 mile), turned engine off, main engine fan started up and has now been going at full speed for last 20 minutes, after it was going for about 5 min I started engine which turned the fan off, then stopped the engine and the fan started again, that was 15 min...

isn't that test only going to prove you're telling the truth.....I suspect they don't believe you. 12ltr of oil in that amount of miles is much more than my knackered old Escort from the 80's, it just sounds ridiculous that a new car uses so much. My last 2 Seats don't use a drop.

Looking at engine from front of car, over to the right on the bulkhead there's a rubber grommet, puncture this, feed a wire through and it comes into the passenger foot well, near the glovebox. Mate of mine did this to run a wire to the rear of the car when fitting a towbar.

I'd drop into the conversation that you are worried that it is a leak from your exhaust, which it could be, and as such it could contain carbon monoxide, i.e. play the health and safety card. Should make them sit up and listen, should it not?

Sounds to me like 'newness', it's just burning in and will clear soon enough. Oh, and exhausts do get hot! don't worry

Thought I'd post an update, as we did get one late April and done about 5k miles since (car had 5k, now has 10k on the clock). Had the following MPG figures from the tank-full's so far, all calculated manually (brimmed/emptied/brimmed etc): 1st tank 66.0 2nd tank 65.3 etc 67.0 69.4 66.6...
