Just squirt some on both sides while the engine is running and see if the noise changes mate. quite a bit yeah. It won't do any harm as it will burn off pretty quick. You should realise almost straight away if it it that so you won't need to use much.

Check the AUX belt, down the left hand side as you look at the engine. Spray some wd40 on it and see if the noise stops. If so then change it. Check it for cracks etc as well. You can easily remove the cambelt cover, its just 2 clips, then you can see if that is rubbing on the case if it...

When my turbo was seized solid as in it would not spin, the engine still ran fine. IMO if the wastegate is open at tickover the turbo is probably not spinning. Anyway. It sounds like a belt to me. Check that.

Oh, also when I fitted the hks the boost seemed to reach max sooner. It just seemed to spool earlier. Whether that means I just need the yellow spring in my 007p I dont know

I have got a 007p already. I only have the stage 1 spring though and the hks one is reverse piston type so the boost pushes the valve shut so doesn't matter how much boost you run. I'm not sure I really want the high pitched noise tbh. It wont sound anything like a 007p on recirc I dont think...

You have taken the manifold off yeah? Easiest is to put turbo on dp. Then bolt to manifold. Then bolt manifold to head last. Good luck mate. Emlyn

VCDS-lite is free, you just need to buy a cable off eBay for about £5. I wouldn't go buying sensors until you have checked them though mate as it could be something else. Put a post up in the vagcom section and someone local might do a log on your car for some beer money if you're lucky :) Emlyn
