  1. End of the road? (Airbag light latest)

Wow, the costs youve quoted are staggering.. I would start as suggested, look under the seat, clean up any corrosion on the plug for the airbag ECU and reconnect. Use VAGCOM to clear fault codes and see if they reappear. If they do.. a second hand ECU should not cost much at all. I would be...
  2. Recommendation for gearbox specialist South London / Croydon

Glad it's fixed! Depending on your age and insurance provider, I found that a stage 1 map would add between £0 and £100 to the policy. Worthwhile in my opinion. Keep an eye out though for the whining on overrun - 1st to 4th gears - better to get that fixed before the casing becomes unrepairable...
  3. Anybody Bought 'R' badges from eBay??

The Ebay badges I bought - the centre logo piece is a metal plate that is glued to a plastic backing. In the heat of one summer, the glue melted on both wings and the 'R' fell out. The dealer badges I bought - lacquered these with 3 coats each and they were beginning to corrode slightly after...
  4. Cam chain tensioner

I suspect my cam chain tensioner at the moment - when the car is warmed through and idling I hear a quietish rattle from the top of the engine. If I blip the revs to 3000, this goes, and it gradually comes back at idle. Normal behaviour, or faulty tensioner? Alex
  5. Door locks - Anyone local?

Do you hear the right rear door trying to unlock? If so, try thumping the handle from the outside and see if this causes it to unlock. You should then disconnect the wiring to the door lock and leave this door unlocked til the module is replaced (£30 each). If the door is totally dead, the glass...
  6. Leon radio woes

Advise not running off the 12V cigarette lighter - it should be individually fused, and the cig plug is always live in the Leon. Alex
  7. LED brake light surgery.

Nice guide, this is probably an expensive part here in the UK, and you'll save people quite a bit of money replacing a perfectly good bunch of LEDs just for one or two failed resistors on a PCB. Alex
  8. AUQ Hesitation part throttle 3-4k RPM with Log - Resolved

Good post, you've changed quite a comprehensive list of related parts. I changed most of the PCV parts too to try and resolve. My BAM engined car (stock map) does a similar sort of thing - though I am convinced that switching the OEM DV with Forge 007P did help. I think the rubber diaphragm of...
  9. Noise in 3rd Gear

It's a common fault, and the car will run for thousands of miles without problem. When you decide to get it repaired, have your gearbox reconditioned - because a replacement unit may well have the same problem. Alex
  10. NEED HELP ASAP: suspension!!

To be honest my passenger side strut nut was the worst for me, and when the force required to budge it was applied - with 900mm breaker bar - the thing simply sheared off (be careful to apply downward force so you don't crash into the wing with the bar). In any case, 900mm breaker will do the...
  11. Cupra r splitter theft prevention

Also that dealer prices have shot up for this part because they tend to be fitted to all sorts of motors.. £40+ is excessive for what it is and how easily they get wrecked on multi-storey car park ramps! Alex
  12. Door not catching the latch while closing

Door alignment is a very tricky business. Generally speaking, there isn't a proper method of adjustment, and if you do attempt to change the position of the striker (on the body of the car) or the lock, only move one of them! Has the door dropped? With the door closed, is the panel gap even...
  13. Cupra r splitter theft prevention

On the R there are *many* heavy duty plastic lugs and the only way to remove is with a lot of shoving, pulling (and swearing). Screwdriver sadly does sound a bit too easy. I'd suggest putting superglue around the screwheads (at least you could still remove them with an impact driver?) or as a...
  14. Change front ARB bushes without dropping subframe

It's very helpful if you can get hold of slightly longer bolts to help reach the other hole of the bracket whilst fitting - pinching the bracket together with the new bush in place is a bloody difficult task - and a slimline (potentially 1/4") ratchet is also useful because there's not a lot of...
  15. passenger door lock fault

One other bit of useful info - the lock mechanism is bolted into the door with 2x M8 bolts. However, once you free those bolts, it attaches to the carrier panel using a plastic bracket, and then the bracket attaches to the lock with a plastic tongue, and a single rivet. The plastic part of...
  16. Top mounts

Pretty sure the strut shouldn't move laterally - that sounds like MOT failure to me. Did the upper cup get fitted with the right orientation? I am trying to picture how the assembly goes together to think how there could be lateral movement. Rubber mount nestles into the bodyshell, and the...
  17. Favoured tyre: Oct '13

Take the Sessantas, or my choice the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso which is the standard fit. Superb in the dry, a touch skittish in the wet though - can be had for £98 a corner. But the Sessanta was the best deal at sub-£90, last time I checked at Camskill. Alex
  18. passenger door lock fault

Hi, I did a right rear door lock replacement the other week and the process isn't too tough if you follow the guide carefully. Typically it's microswitches in the lock that fail, and you can buy an entire new aftermarket mechanism on ebay for £30. Failing to lock isn't too bad - obviously...
  19. New clutch problems help please!!!!

Does the problem go away if you pump the clutch a few times in neutral first? Any pressure loss can only be through the master and the slave, so if you've replaced both, ensure the bleeding was done with a pressure bleed system and you ought to be OK Alex
  20. Dog got to the key fob

Would it not be possible to transfer the immob chip and key stub into a new blank? I've not tried this personally Alex
