Well that guide is more for brand new engines that are being started for the 1st time. Its to do with getting the car boosting and forcing the rings to bed into the cylinders well. Most people would say to granny it for the 1st few thousand miles. This says do the opposite.

Well you might want to have a read on this thread, certainly throws in a different pov.Its how I ran my engine in which has used zero oil in the 1st 2500 miles since being built and has higher compresion than normal as a result. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

    Tdi mapped to 180 vs...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwF-kr91uxU&feature=related According to their claim it's the world's fastest street car, they even drove 1200 miles to the event and then ran a high 6s @ over 200mph.Happy to be proved wrong if a diesel can beat that.

The fastest drag cars aren't diesel, they will be running on alcohol/nitromethane of some sort making many 1000's of hp. That's not to say you cannot make diesel go quickly, just that for ultimate performance you don't use it.

    heat shield?

Make a template out of cardboard by cutting and bending it into the shape you need.Buy a small sheet of thin alluminium for a few quid off ebay.Trace your template onto the sheet and cut it with strong scissors or tinsnips.Score along any bends with a sharp knife and you have a heatshield for...

    Potential Stripping out....

I got mine insured through Egger Lawson in Nottingham.Extensively modified(engine, suspension, drivetrain, interior, brakes and wheels) and the cover included 4 or 5 trackdays(excludes the ring specificly) and an agreed value.Cost around £850 for a 400bhp gtir but once you go over 350bhp the...

    Potential Stripping out....

I have gone through 2 odyseey redtops.Weightwise they are great, 7kg compared to 15kg+ for an average car battery. They are also safer as they are drycell, so if its inside the cabin and you have an accident then no battery acid leaking out.You can mount them on their side, upside down if you...

    Potential Stripping out....

After having stripped a car in this way, my advice would be don't do it. I stripped out the carpets, roof lining, all sound deadening, sun visors, rear seats and belts, all door cards, fitted drycell race battery, ligthweight forged alluminium wheels, alluminium ancillary pulleys, removed...

Had a search on how they come to the claimed mpg's and found this: Europe Irish fuel economy label. In the European Union, passenger vehicles are commonly tested using two drive cycles, and corresponding fuel economies are reported as 'urban' and 'extra-urban', in litres per 100 km and (in...

Glad you managed to increase it a bit.Try just doing 60-65mph on the motorway.I know its slow but as the speeds rise, aerodynamic drag plays more into it. On "normal" driving to get good results you might have to totally change your driving style(or maybe not, I don't know how you drive).The...

    Car won't start, dead?!

Not all jump leads are the same. The tenner ones you get as a "present" are fine for a micra but bigger engines need thicker leads.

I'm SAFED(safe and fuel efficient driving) trained and have taught others how to do it, but you just ignored the advice I gave you. Not one of the people I trained with thought they would improve their mpg as they thought they were driving fine.Every one of them did, some by over 200%.

    Another mpg thread.

You say you are getting 65-70mpg when doing 30-40mph but braking and accelerating lowers it, so in fact you aren't doing 65-70mpg at all.Its slowing down and speeding up that totally kills mpg and I think you are just reading the realtime display and getting its giving you unrealistic...

    Car won't start, dead?!

When cars are being worked on, the doors are often left open so your interior lights come on.If you're battery is on its way out then this can be enough to flatten it.Has happened to me a couple of times when I had an odyssey redtop battery fitted.

    Over-Inflated tyres

Manufacturers expect you to cary passengers, so unless your tools weigh more than 2-3 people or have some particular settings you are comfortable with, I'd stick to what the manufacturers recommend. If you only check them at the petrol station then they will be higher pressures as you've...

    1.2TSI or 1.6TDI MPG?

You can't say you are getting 70-80mpg in town just from reading the realtime display. You need to do it properly by filling up to the brim, resetting the trip computer, driving for a week/whatever then fill up to the brim again and see how many miles you have done on the computer. Then divide the...

Seat Leon - Very Weird Braking Problem

ABS is totally useless in the snow, you have to change your driving style if you don't want to sail over a junction into oncoming traffic.Drive more slowly and use the gears to control your speed better. If you get the grinding noise, lift off the brake pedal and apply again with less...
