  1. 75hp performance

Hi all Considering an Ibiza - very impressed with the car standing still - but wondering about the 75hp engine option. Will be using the car mostly around town, happy to run at the speed limit on the motorway, but don't want to get scared on the slip roads if you know what I mean. Will the...
  2. Replacement for XL

Sounds like your car showroom routine is the same as mine! The Note is an amazingly spacious little car - we have had them a couple of times as a hire car and if it wasn't for the small-ish boot I would seriously consider one. Cheap as chips.
  3. Replacement for XL

Might be - certainly the SV looks similar but the local VW dealer does not have any... which I think says something about recent car-buying fashion. I've had a look around virtually every mid-sized crossover and people carrier over the last couple of weeks, hoping to find inspiration... no...
  4. Noisy rear suspension

Garage fitted new rubber bushings to the shock tops and that seems to have resolved the noise this time.
  5. Seat Altea 1.6 and its defects

As far as I know the hub is made in such a way that removal of the bearing from the hub is not intended to be done once it has left the factory - doesn't mean you can't try and get it out of course...
  6. Seat Altea 1.6 and its defects

The bearing is built in to the hub.
  7. Rear Offside Door Seat Altea 1.6 Stylance 58

My hunch is that it will be related to the door control module rather than the door lock. There are a few threads on this but essentially the module can develop a fault and mis-report whether or not the door is locked.
  8. Seat Altea 1.6 and its defects

From your list I've had ABS warning issues myself. According to the garages I've used, the only solution is full replacement of the rear hub as the sensor is built in. Good luck trying to replace the sensor on its own.
  9. Replacement for XL

Considering replacing our XL after nearly 10 years of ownership. Criteria are that it should be high up and no bigger than the Altea, but with the same amount of space and better running costs (tax and mpg on the 1.6 petrol Altea are poor). We have no need for more than 5 seats. I've had a...
  10. change battery altea xl

Changing the battery is pretty straightforward - just the appropriate spanners to get the terminals off and to loosen the clamp that holds the bottom of the battery in place (might differ slightly for different versions but my 1.6 petrol Altea has a soft case that goes around the battery and is...
  11. Noisy rear suspension

So I've had a fair few issues with the suspension on my Altea XL over the last year or so ('07 plate, 80k miles). It started off with the tyre garage noticing some odd wear on the rear tyres and suggesting that it may have been caused by failing rear shocks. So we got the shocks replaced with...
  12. Heater "literally" blows hot and cold

I usually have the heater set to 22 and demisting the screen at this time of year, and there will be times when it goes stone cold, and other times when it goes to full heat. AC on or off makes no difference. I can hear the motor behind the glovebox running if I turn the knob to 18 or 26 so I...
  13. Replace Battery

Basically, the battery is clamped at the lower edge, you'll need an extension on your socket set to reach down to it.
  14. Leon mk3?

It's funny how the inclusion of the Ibiza-style styling makes the car look like a low-rent version of a Kia. Probably not the intention. Misses the mark in the pictures. No "emocion". Then again, the Citroen DS3 looks rotten in pictures but somehow works in the flesh, so I'll reserve judgement.
  15. Please Help with engine choice

Our '07 XL Reference has the 1.6 petrol engine. I wouldn't buy it again. Performance is OK until about 70/75 mph - but at that point, it isn't the engine but the short gearing in 5th that becomes a problem, it is thrashing around like crazy. Very bad economy (into the mid-20s if you like to go...
  16. Car totally immobilised - help please!

Thought I would update the thread for the benefit of anyone suffering the same problem... Car has now been "normal" for two weeks, I'm pretty sure the problem is solved. After a false alarm left the interior lights flashing like a funfair, I told the garage about this (as well as the false...
  17. Problem with interior courtesy light

Took me a while but I finally got around to taking that interior light unit out. Mine has the U-shaped lens and the rocker switch. Not easy to pry out, and I can see why it causes problems. The plastic it is made from is rather soft, and the reason mine doesn't work properly is that the...
  18. Car totally immobilised - help please!

Is this multiplug inside the door or somewhere else?
  19. Car totally immobilised - help please!

OK... new battery fitted, good for a few days. Then alarm went off at school drop off almost straight after I got out of the car. Assumed it was a true trigger, perhaps a window was open, closed the windows from the key and it didn't go off again. A week passes, and yesterday afternoon the...
  20. Car totally immobilised - help please!

Almost exactly 5 years old - and the visual indicator in the top has turned clear yellow. So definitely a replacement required. Will check the boot light also.
