    Mein Golf

LOL. When I had it I painted some black hammerite on the insides of the rear arches in hope to prevent rust. Sounds like it has helped - I've seen some similar age ones completely covered in rot. It always had a strong engine too. I always remember my friend who had an Impreza at the time...

    Mein Golf

That's pretty low mileage for the year. I'm glad to see it is still being looked after and still looks good. I still regret selling it. I still nose around the forum quite regularly although I haven't posted anything for some time. Cheers.

Is that my old 8v in the background? You still got it? The Golf is very nice by the way.

trade in value of leon cupra

Yeah I would loose those rear lights - they won't be doing you any favours when the dealers value it, they will want it to look as standard as possible.

trade in value of leon cupra

I part ex'd my Y reg Leon Cupra with 77k miles a month ago for £3,500. I've seen it since at a different dealer for £4,995. I'd have thought you would get more than £1700 for yours, unless it's really rough.

Leon Cupra info before test driving

Fully open and close all the windows and check for any nasty cracking/twanging noises - the cables can snap and unravel inside resulting in the glass falling inside the door. And check the central locking works on all doors. Both not massively expensive to fix but require stripping down the...

How much oil to put in ?

My old Leon Cupra used to be similar. The oil light would come on at least once between services and required at least a litre to top up every 3k or so miles. I thought it was odd as my previous cars had never used a drop of oil, so I had it checked out and was told there was nothing to worry...

    Fluctuating Engine Temp

Yeah mine did exactly that, the gauge was going up and down randomnly just as you describe. All was fixed with a new temp sender. I'm not sure exactly which one as the garage fitted it, but it wasn't expensive.

    Leon electric window switch

You can take the switch apart quite easily so you could presumably take the actual switch out of a rear one and put it into the larger trim of the front passenger one. When my window picture fell out it got stuck inside the switch and you couldn't put the window back up again as well.

    Leon electric window switch

No, you can just prise the old one off and then unplug it. Be careful not to mark the door card though.

    Leon electric window switch

You mean the picture of the window has fallen off inside the switch? I think it's quite common, it happened to me. They're relatively easy to take apart and glue back together, but you might as well pick one up from ebay if cheap enough. That looks like the right one on ebay.

Car seems to be playing up recently..

Did you ever find out what this noise was? Mine has started making the same noise, on full lock either way. I've recently had all my CV boots replaced so it can't be that. Must be steering related. Exactly like you say, like a wet rubbery tyre like squeak.

    Central locking problem :0(

Mine's been the same for ages. Occassionally it opens with the remote but 99% of the time it doesn't. And now the key is getting really stiff to turn, presumably because I am having to use the lock all of the time. I haven't had time to try myself but I think I read somewhere that sometimes...

    Split bloody crankcase breather hose!

I've just checked the invoice from my service and they've marked that it's the breather hoses underneath the inlet manifold that are showing signs of leaking, so not the same one then. Has anyone had to replace the ones underneath the inlet manifold?

    Split bloody crankcase breather hose!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but at a recent service they pointed out that my oil breather pipes were perishing and on their way out. Presumably it's this one which looks pretty easy to change, are there any others that are likely to fail at around the same time that I might need to change...

    Will i ever get one????

8vs go a lot better than you might expect. With the low down torque they are more punchy at lower revs than the 16v. You get more goodies in the 16v though. If my 8v had air con I'd probably never have got rid of it, I miss it loads.

look what i just got :p

They look mint. I always wanted a set of them for my black mk2, but settled for 20VT rims in the end.

Oil lamp flashes on and off

Maybe they changed it, or it is different for different engines then. Mine definitely says it illuminates yellow/amber for low level and red for low pressure.

Oil lamp flashes on and off

I thought the light flashing means there is a fault with the sensor? Orange is low level, red is low pressure. Try switching on the ignition with the bonnet open as I think that is supposed to reset it.
