Try that, any 8mm internal diameter fuel hose should do as you're not using it for long, glass coffee jar and in that video he used a cheap filter...
There were a couple more clouds on the way home but once upto temperature, Nothing at all so probably some residual crap somewhere... And my central locking has started working properly too, all on it's own.
This car is a strange one.
There was no oil in the fuel filter at all, clean as a whistle in there. What it was doing was after a few seconds of idle it would fire a cloud of grey smoke out of the exhaust, I had it confirmed that this was unburned diesel... The oil level was also rising.
Note the use of past tense...
I hope that changing all the seals on all the injectors sorts it, just backing it off the ramps it was smoking like mad but then again it will do. Having a well deserved coffee then a mixed run starting with some motorway to get it warmed up properly then country lanes.
Got the parts, and printed off some hints and tips from Elsawin... Now if this rain would bugger off I can get on with it, I've had enough problems without getting water in the fuel system... I need a garage.
Confirmed that it is the injector seals. I was advised that they would be ok to re-use by someone whose advice I nolonger value very much but anyway, no point dwelling on that, the parts are ordered and will be here on Thursday.
With the rising oil level I won't drive the car again until it is...
Do you have your pictures set to private? Even copying the links and pasting them into the search bar wont let me view it. (original post)
For image hosting I use imageshack.com or Facebook and don't usually have a problem as long as I remember to modify the Facebook links. They start https...
Strangely there was no sign of damage, it's a steel shim gasket and usually you can re-use those so I did, but these have a rubberized coating which didn't like being asked to seal again.
As for changing it, it's a fiddly job and you need a ball ended 6mm allen bit to get around the coolant...
Well the new gasket fixed the fuel smell... Still leaves a cloud of smoke setting off from traffic lights, sometimes virtually none, other times the car following me drops back a good few yards.
Problem is that I've had 2 different mechanics tell me it's not oil smoke, the guy who double...
Had a brainwave today, could it be low fuel pressure at low revs? Then got a strong smell of diesel through the blowers this morning waiting at traffic lights on the way to work... I know it's not the filter or lines because I've been over those, so what could do both of those? Tandem pump...
Same with my MK2, I've had it 2 years now and until my recent head gasket shenanigans the level never moved from Max, when checked cold... Good point there, always check it with a cold engine.
I might need to stump up for VCDS, I have added some injector cleaner into the fuel tank and will let that run through concentrated for a day or 3 then fill up.
Might get it to a diesel specialist in the area (any recommendations in South Yorkshire?) if that doesn't work.
My next day off is...
As above (CraigFrTsi), on all VAG car's that I've seen the cooling system is sealed and should not need to be touched at all, if it needs topping up on a new car then they need to be finding out where it is going.
I'm a few years out of practice but did buy a timing kit, i'm just stumped by the way it's running so a 2nd opinion is worth it to me.
I never did mess with many diesels.
I have a similar problem on the MK2, try winding the windows all the way down (press and hold unlock) then all the way back up again (press and hold lock).
On mine it is some software glitch on the rear windows, to clear it they both need winding down all the way then back up.
My main issue with things like this is that the door and magnet have to be totally grit free and the magnets cant slide across the paint or it could make a bigger mess than a slight ding. I can still clearly see where that magnetic for sale sign was dragged across the roof of dads Punto by a...
After another go at bleeding the cooling system I found that it was already properly bled, then the wind dropped to nothing so a good old rev and I went for a sniff at the cloud my car had just farted out... OIL!!!
Taking it to a mates garage tomorrow for his opinion, if it is the turbo then I...
So the filter is now sealed and it runs, after 3/4 of an hour running on the drive I took it for a 60 mile run. it was smoky at first but that was expected with all the assembly lube and oil on threads ect.
When I got home I gave it a rev and it smoked just like before, over £600 in parts and...
