    Most likely the wiring loom to the coil packs has degraded with heat where it rests on the cylinder head . This loom is a short length that plugs into the main loom and just goes to the coil packs . It is designed to be replaceable and just unplugs . Awesome GTI site used to sell them...

    no not piston rings ........... most likely valve stem oil seals or turbo hot side oil seal ring or over filling sump with oil ( when wrong length replacement dipstick plastic tube has been fitted in error it alters the correct reading of the oil level )

    For a cheap but very very effective kit I would reccomend Tarox 312 mm F2000 discs , porsche boxster calipers , caliper adapters , plus vag to porshe stainless brake lines . Discs = circa £220 pads = any porsche boxster fitment ( widest choice in the world for this caliper) carrier...

    change the rings if you want .......... Its just a fair bit more work. Personally I would try the easy stuff first . The figures are not that different are they for the amount of smoke you are getting . It depends how much you think the car is worth and how much you wish to plough into it .
