  1. Who likes a good fault find?

I should have mentioned that I did that as soon as I pushed it into the car park space, I got 12.4v.
  2. Who likes a good fault find?

So, I have suffered my last breakdown. My Cupra is in front of the house now and I think it’s too expensive to fix. I’m not looking for a fix (unless it seems cheap and easy) but rather to put some info down and get your ideas in case someone else has this issue in the future. So, a few weeks...
  3. Which starter motor?

Thanks guys, massive help. Yeah the stealers told me the same price, they’re living up to their name 🤣 I’ve had the battery tray out today and from the last repair that was done (cut off the connector and crimp a spade onto it) I could cut the spade connector down and jam it into the solenoid...
  4. Which starter motor?

My starter motor connector has snapped inside the plug next to the solenoid and I’ve been trying to find out which starter motor I need to replace it. The trouble is I don’t know what power mine is and how many teeth until I take it out and I can’t take it out until I get home and have a new one...
  5. Rear seat back won’t lock into place

Thanks mate. I’ve had the back off but taking the seat apart is a nightmare. Yeah most threads point to unlocking it like you say and I’ve waded through them today. The mechanism appears to work as it should. I’ll have another look at the centre belt and see what I can do. Thanks for your reply 👍🏻
  6. Rear seat back won’t lock into place

Yeah neither did I until it bounced forward off the bracket as I slammed it back. I now lift the handle to make sure it would go over the bracket but it just doesn’t want to lock any more when it is in the correct position
  7. Rear seat back won’t lock into place

I’ve had the rear seats down for a few weeks while I’ve been taking the road bike out and now when I’ve tried to put it all back, the offside rear seat back won’t lock into place. The handle lifts and pulls the hook out of the way and I can slot the seat back over the locking bracket on the...
  8. New here: Question about Mk 1 Door Seals

Hi mate, I had this issue a few years ago. I removed the old seals (I had to get a screwdriver into the seal channel to scrape it out) and replaced it with butyl tape. I got the 8mm thick stuff (I think, it wasn’t too thick anyway) from eBay for about a tenner. It sticks really well and when you...
  9. Alternator not charging - best new option or reconditioned?

Those prices you’ve been quoted seem a bit odd. My alternator had a wobble earlier this year so I bought a brand new Bosch alternator from Carparts4less (with a money off coupon that they send via emails every week) and it was £266 (incl the £107 ‘surcharge’). I sent my old one back and was...
  10. Seat Leon Mk1 Door Won't Close!

I had some issues with mine last year in the cold. If it is due to low temperatures (and not because for whatever reason you’ve removed the lock mechanism) try and warm up the mechanism and spray some penetrant on it (3 in 1 or WD40). Then actuate the mechanism with a flat blade screwdriver to...
  11. Alarm issues following dead car battery

Completely agree mate. I definitely need to change it. I’ve charged it again so it’s working for now until I can get another one. I searched the forums again and found a nugget of help from another thread but I can’t remember where. It said that in order to stop it happening you have to...
  12. Alarm issues following dead car battery

So today I changed my steering rack following a breakdown a couple of days ago. The car was recovered by the AA the following day but the battery was dead. Charged it up during the time it took to change the steering rack and drop the sump to clean it and the oil pickup and refill with oil...
  13. Cambelt and Water pump replacement costs?

I had my cambelt and water pump done 2 years ago. £320 for the lot and the replacement water pump has a metal impeller instead of the crappy plastic OEM one. That was at a vag specialist.
  14. Airbag reset

Thanks for all the replies. Just for info; I have decided to clear the codes based on the idea that if there is a fault in the system, it will reappear. The fact that the carpet was wet and that I had driven on potholed roads when the light came on has led me to believe that the plug was...
  15. Airbag reset

Yeah that's what I saw that made me wonder.
  16. Airbag reset

So, I've bought a code reader (cheers tom). It's showing 00532 and 01578. The first is low supply voltage but a search on the net (nothing on the mk1 forum, I found something on VW forum) for the second code reveals it has something to do with the side passenger airbag. Nothing on rosstech...
  17. Airbag reset

Full vagcom and a nice new laptop would be great if money was no object
  18. Airbag reset

Thanks mate. I hope you didn't think I was trying to get you to do my leg work; I only wondered if you had used one in the past that you would recommend. I do appreciate you sharing that link and I'll get one ordered.
  19. Airbag reset

Thanks for the info mate. Could you recommend a code reader that will clear airbag and abs faults please? I'm on a tight budget so if I can get lite to do it (unregistered) that would be the best option, but I'm aware that might not be the case and that I might have to register it to get what I...
  20. Airbag reset

I've had an airbag warning light on for a few months. Now I'm able to do something about it. I've had a good search of the forum and I am none the wiser as to how to scan and reset the code (I'm aware this is probably noddy to many of you but I've never had cause to use a reader before). I have...
