my understanding is that all new (not sure which year from) cars are required to have DRL lights as part of the safety requirements. so in short, I don't think you can turn them off.

When revved the engine still sounds fine, nothing odd at all.

Ah thats ok then, there is a rattle for about 5 seconds after but only slight... Il get a cold start vid when i finish work but it was mostly the starting noise itself i was concerned about.

After reading that the timing chain is a common problem on 1.4 tsi engines (mine is the CAVE engine) I payed more attention to the warning signs and realise it has a strange starting noise, somewhat like a diesel. Im looking into this now as it still has a little over a month on the warranty so...

hi, i'm roughly getting 32 mpg with short town with 20mi motorway + a somewhat heavy foot when i'm bored. If I drive sensibly i'm managing 37 on those trips. Generally a full tank gets me 300miles on average.
