17 vs 18 inch wheels - ride quality

When I got a puncture on the last car the tyre place fitted Yokohamas, they were XL load with a stiffer side wall and I'm sure they were noisier too than the original Bridgestone. Could be the tyre construction of the Yoko's plus the smaller side wall is what makes it worse than your GTi?

17 vs 18 inch wheels - ride quality

I use 16" winter wheels with 205/55R16 winter tyres on my 1.5 FR ST and on previous 1.4 ACT FR. I always notice that the car rides better on urban roads with the smaller wheels with deeper tyres side wall. It will be time to change back to the standard 17' wheels in next couple of weeks and I...

    Rear shock absorbers

I need to replace rear Shocks on my 2019 Leon ST FR 1.5 150 as one is leaking. I took a photo of the existing ones, and having owned the car since it was 7 months old, I'm pretty sure they are original, it says Sachs and 5Q0 512 013 FK and 801401000302. This number doesn't seem to tie in with...

Spare key for 2019 Leon, how?

We learnt this the hard way about 15 years ago with a Golf that came with only one key, cost a fortune as only VW dealers could get the secure code. I've made sure ever since that there are two working keys when buying. Timpsons say they can do at £300 but might not be much of a saving. If you...

How do I update satnav 2019 Leon

The first step is to help yourself, if you're not willing to do any investigation go to the dealership. Before you order a card, go to the car and find out what sat nav system the car has as it could have an optional upgrade from the standard version. How to do this has already been explained...

Weird Issue with my car making a humming juddering noise when idling

If it's related to engine temperature could the noise be related to the fan? If the fan started pulling electrical load would it change the charging rate?

    TMC Not Working

Mib2 update has worked perfectly, thank you. Traffic alerts available and roadworks showing on map. Just hoping V12 is new enough to include the Aberdeen bypass that opened fully early 2019.

    TMC Not Working

It looks like the UK Government changed the company that it uses to supply live traffic information recently. Now it's understandable why the Trafficmaster service has stopped for in-car systems, they didn't just withdraw the service, they lost their main source of income and the reason to...

    Wing mirror replacement advice please!

Years ago I had to replace the wing mirror cover on a Mk5 Golf and used Wing Mirror Man. I paid extra for them to paint it, it had go back as they didn't rub down the moulding lines but when I got it back again it was perfect...

    Key fob branded battery confirmation

I bought a battery for something recently and it said don't test with a standard voltmeter as it could damage the battery. Don't know the basis but the warning said. Small Batteries Notice Do not pre-test small batteries unless you have a specialist load simulation tester designed to perform...

    Crazy Fuel Prices!

A couple of years ago the Morris Minor Owners Club gave members option to get a Fuel Pecker discount card, 3p off unleaded and 6p off Super at Esso or 1p off all at Shell. I used V-Power for years and rarely used the card but at current prices I'm buying Esso most of the time. It looks like the...

    Brake Fluid Cap

I ordered a cheap brake fluid tester from Amazon yesterday, checked the Leon and got a Red change now light, same on my Morris Traveller that last had fluid replaced 5 yrs ago. An airtight but previously opened can of fluid was less than 1% moisture. Allowing that a £8 moisture gauge won't be...

    Brake Fluid Cap

The Service Manager was very apologetic and offered to redo the fluid change as a precaution. It shouldn't have happened but at least they were willing to do put things right. Booked in next week.

    Brake Fluid Cap

The car was coming up to end of warranty and I wanted it to go through a Seat Dealer in case any warranty work was needed, as you'll know Arnie is the only one without going to Fife or Stirling. I used Morrison in Stirling a few years ago but even from West Edinburgh it's a pain to get there and...

    Crazy Fuel Prices!

I'm guessing Esso at Hillend? I drove past on Saturday on way to Straight, on the totem board it was showing £163.9 for unleaded, both Shell at Maybury and Dreghorn were the same, about 14-15p more for Diesel. On Sunday I filled up at Esso Craigleith, it was £162.9. Days of buying Super have...

    Brake Fluid Cap

I had misfortune to use Arnold Clark for service a couple of months ago, they phoned at time and said that due to being 3 yrs old brake fluid should be changed. I asked them to do it, if their online booking was any good I would have requested it anyway. Got car back and locking wheel nut key...
