Had the exact same issue on a Mk 2 Astra many years ago. Very irritating but easily fixed by lubricating the rubbers Paul

Done the same as kevster184. Case of eBay and chrome cap of eBay also (genuine VW dealer). Tip use the screw supplied with the cap as it is designed to tap a thread into the metal cap and works a treat. 4 min job and looks the business. Key now feels reassuringly heavy. Paul
