okay, i've done my 1000 km (1.2 TSI+DSG) and i am driving like a nanny :D

So what the best way to push the car engine, do i drive in S mode or Manual as i noticed you can't push D that much(the rpm does not exceed 3000). i am open to suggestion here...

and i do have some observation, i need your comment about it;

does the speedo light in the morning or not? i am little confused about this. sometime its totally dark, i cant see anything when i am in the garage for example. and sometime its lightning. i cant understand its mechanism

does the mobile bluetooth function support waiting? when i am in a call and another call come in. it doesn't alert me in anyway...

and does this rattling noise from the petrol when its full normal?!

Agreed that the dash lights under some circumstances are very dim. I do have auto and find that even then they can be caught out by sun or clouds when the sensor is not expecting a change in light levels. But it's a clever system for most of the time and I have to look at the red dash lights to see if the headlights have come on the changes are very subtle.

I find that mwith the DSG it will change sensibly in 'S' to deliver brilliant throttle response yet at the same time doesn't rev the knackers off it all the time (I have the 2.0 150 TDI with DSG) but its so easy to drive fast.

Semi auto on the other hand seems to let you push the revs that little further into the red but sadly I feel like I am changing too late or early when compared to 'S' as it just works so well.

I only ever use semi auto when I want to have a play and use the paddles and more use of engine breaking (Although it doesn't offer much freedom in downshifting very early....)

There's a light sensor on the dash itself. try this, when in complete darnkess, turn off your lights and point your cellphone with the screen lit to the speedo. You'll see the light automatically turns on (on the dashboard, not the headlights). Try this with the car on.

What I do not understand....is why if it detects light...it lights up but if it "sees" darkness.....it doesnt!

It's probably more to assist with sun glare than anything else. In other words, the sensor is there to detect if there is glare which is likely to make it more difficult to read the dash, and if so, turning the backlighting improves the readability.

I asked VW about this when I had my Mk6 Golf which did the same thing - dimming the instrument backlights to the point where you can hardly read them is the car's way of prompting you that it's going dark and you haven't turned your lights on, hence why it doesn't do it with the lights on or in auto mode when you wouldn't need to act.

Yep same story with the Audi A1 also, normal behaviour for cars without auto-lights.

The noise from the fuel tank is normal, quite a few people have commented about it.
Don't completely fill the tank and you don't get the noise

Although after quite a few tanks of fuel the noise has gone even with the tank full to the brim

I always though this thing with the dash sometimes lighting and sometimes not was a fault. Glad I found this thread now!

I'm glad it goes away as I'm a brimmer :)

thanks all for the comments.

getting another strange issue, my car fuel tank suggest RON 95 but as its very expensive here i asked the dealer about using RON 92 which is a lot more cheaper and he said "Yes, you can used it but the ONLY problem is decreased performance" . so after my first 1000KM which i used RON 95 i tried the RON 92 and since then the motor is producing knocking sound whenever i kick down or going uphill :(

any explanation?! isn't the knock sensor should work to avoid such a noise?!

Unfortunately Ron 95 is the standard here in the UK with it going up to 99 (And for a while one brand did a 102 RON) and most car manufacturers will advise using 95. If you use lower then you will loose power and increase the chance of 'pinking' or 'detonation', especially when it comes to a turbo aspirated engine.

If its too expensive to use 95 you could try using 92 and using an additional octane booster.

Also, just to note, you might find that with decreased performance comes decreased efficiency too so the price difference when factor in how far the fuel gets you maybe less than you think......

very valid point, my consumption increased from 7.5 L/100 KM to 8.9.

The only problem RON 95 is triple the price of RON 92, but frankly i am not willing to screw my engine for whatever reason, i am going back to RON 95.

but on a technical side note, shouldn't the sensor adjust the timing so this knocking sound or pinking or detonation don't happen?! its really not happening unless i am on D and kicking down or going uphill.

yeah i am trying S more often lately, and i feeling comfortable driving with it. and Manual really isn't that good to me, as shifting doesn't go as fast as used to with D or S, so you feel something aint right...

Third full tank and its still there, hopefully it will go with time...

Thats a shame its so much more expensive but sadly it seems your doing the right thing, you want to keep your nice modern engine running well then you have to use decent fuel....
