Well that's good then, it means it's getting fuel but the spark is obviously in the wrong place. Asssuming it is sparking.
Yeh but the only reason for that is they're not getting it together at the right time, that's my thinking. Petrol and air go in, they get compressed into a gas, the spark ignites it and forces the piston down. If the spark is coming late then there wont be enough of a gas anymore and the mixture will just go out the tail pipe, to early and there aint anything to burn yet with the same result. You should google the timing for that engine and see if you can't find some info then set your man right.
Oh ok pal & Any chance you can google it for me? please?
Now you're just taking the piss lol
Lol how am I? I'm drinking half pissed so can't concentrate properly lmfao!
In that case chill out and deal with it tomorrow
the firing order is 1 3 4 2
i guess you have checked the gap ect on spark plugs ?
Needs new head gasket
Hmmm so it was probably very hot when it cut out. Did it have any oil left?
the headgasket isnt the reason its not starting though, yea maybe it has gone but the thread is basically about trying to get it to start... i wasnt having a go or anything, but this mechanic sounds useless! its a very basic engine so shouldnt be too difficult to get started especially if hes had it for so long.
download autodata off a torrent site, and search on there how to test all the engine components.
i have it, and it lets you test all the sensors one by one to make sure theyre working properly. just need a multimeter and an LED usually.
Theres a guy i know in shipley that would get it sorted for you 07594 171330 his names andy... If you can get it to him i guarantee he will get it going for you, knows VWs inside out and doesnt charge the earth. hes about 1hr away
