I'm wanting rid of my Leon Cupra TDI 150 (04 plate) as its getting a bit awkward with baby seats etc in the back. (purchased when no baby was here)

My local garage are getting in a Altea 2.0 FSi Sport next week on a 05 plate and 7000 mls.

It has some options on, including the 17" wheels and its all sound great but.....

I've got used to 50mpg !!!!! what will I get with the 2.0 FSi ???

Is it a good engine?

:help:

Engine is fine and performance perfectly OK - how quick do you want to go with the next generation on board anyway...... lucky to get over 30mpg overall with FSI unless you do a lot of motorway work. Not sure the 17" wheels help the ride too much and tend to make tyres a bit more expensive but they look good - try a bumpy road on the test drive.

Presume you aren't going to head butt the dealer if he says something to annoy you.........

Agree with Tell, loads of torque from the diesel would make it a first choice, also, as you are used to an oil burner, you'd notice a big difference in the pull.
I'm sure the FSi is a sweet engine , but not sure when the new engines will be introduced to the Altea. Have heard the 2.0 petrol will be replaced eventually by the 1.4TSi engine, see on this thread http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=85418
Don't think you'll have a problem with the 17", I have them and do loads of miles on roads with speed humps and no problems, grip levels are good too.

I think I'd prefer the diesel just for fuel economy, but they ain't got a 2.0 TDi in at the moment. So its a TFSI or nothing.

I guess I'll see what its like when it arrives.

I need to do some research on second hand values. For two identical Sports models, one petrol and one diesel, with same millage, the TDi seems to be holding its value much better, even taking into account the higher list price.

So it might be that I can't afford the TDi anyway if its £1000+ more. (only what I get for my Leon Cupra TDi goes on Altea - no more.)

My friend is a mechanic at a large Audi dealer, he said that there have been alot of problems with the FSI engine in general and really to avoid it if possible.

We have the 2.0FSi Sport with the 17" wheels and we love it. I'm not a diesel fan myself so I'm biased but I find the 2.0FSi a really good engine, it pulls well (almost feels like a diesel torque wise). I know there have been problems with it in Audis etc but so far I can't fault it. Only problems we've had with the engine have been the coil pack failing and a misfire caused by damp in the plug connections (both fixed under warranty). Oh yeah, and the rear crankcase seal was replaced as it was leaking oil (slightly).
Ours is mainly driven around town, but we came back from hols in Donegal yesterday (approx 120 miles), and got 33mpg out of it, and I wasn't hanging about.

It all depends what you want. If you favour diesel and prefer the economy then either wait for the dealer to get one or have a look around, there are plenty of TDi Sports out there. If you're happy to go petrol then I have no problem recommending the 2.0FSi. Take it for a spin and see what you think.
