You need rear handbrake return springs

Ah, this sound like exactly the problem I have with my car! I made my neighbour jump like a cat when I broke after reversing out the drive lol :p

I've always thought there was a lack of coppergrease or something but then I'm not very good with brakes. I just know to replace them when worn

They all do it. Seat released the springs with the balance weights which do fix it, but they're near on £100 from a dealer

Well I'm kinda confused now. I've done the 256mm rear brake conversion, but I can't recall if there's springs there or not like you mentioned. The calipers and carriers were 2nd hand.

When I'm reversing I get the "mooing" noise, but if I reverse with the handbrake slightly on it goes away. No noise at all going forwards. Does this sound like the handbrake not releasing 100% to you? It feels like it to me but I've always thought lack of coppergrease like I said.

Edit: Ok so I went to look and it turns out I have no springs for the handbrake release mechanism. Looks like thats the next thing to purchase for my car along with 2 new tyres!

My car doesn't 'moo' when reversing but there are annoying and embarassing creaks from the rear (handbrake i pressume) when getting out the car when parked up. Are these helper springs to stops this creaking?

Mine came with springs, but they didn;t help, so I replaced them with the balance weights

If it creaks when you get out, its more likely to be the springs or the rear axle bushes creaking. A power wash and a spray of some grease will help it out. Is it worse in the winter?

Can't speak for Ross but that is the case with mine. A good power wash under the back end has made it go away before.

Yeah it seems to be particularly bad just now. Will give the power washing a go when i give my car it's next big clean.

Well I never got round to going to the dealer on Thursday, and I ran out of time to go today as well so I've got nothing yet. What are these balance weights that you mention? I haven't seen them in the Briskoda thread as far as I know.

The briskoda thread is for your original rear calipers.

I can't find them just now (on my phone) but its basically a spring with a weight

Yeah I gathered that, but having looked at the 256mm calipers, they have exactly the same holes for springs. I'll have to do some more digging and see what I can find.

I think you'll find that the 'getting in or out creak' is the handbrake not on hard enough. That seems to be the case with mine.
