Just read a magazine stating the new 296 bhp S3 to be released.

Cupra R to get the same lump surely?

Apologies if this has been previously posted........

:D Let's hope it's not a dog!

Be interesting to see what they come up with. Quite like the idea of the new Mk7 Golf GTI Carbon Edition. If they could incorporate that concept into a new Cupra R with at least 300bhp and add 4WD & DSG into the mix, you'd have a serious bit of kit to play with.

All depends on how pissy VW and Audi want to be about letting SEAT get the engine.

4WD? Keep dreaming - the way SEAT is viewed these days you'll be lucky to get the current 2.0T in there.

Not like they've EVER held back on an engine filter down before... oh no hang on, the LCR 225 only came out after the TT225 stopped production.

It will also depend on whether VAG will still own SEAT ?

Thats kinda old news - there are some threads on here are details on the web about SEAT having to pull up their socks.

I would think the MK3 Leon Cupra R would have the S3 engine and a diff if they want it to compete with the likes of the Ashtray VXR, Megane R etc. The Cupra would likely have less power and toys to compete with lower Meganes, Astra GTC and Focus ST. The Golf R is in a different class with its all wheel drive in reality and the Octavia is a different size/class of car.

I think there is a lot hanging on the mk3 Leon for SEAT tbh - it could be me but the lack of continuity across what should be the same platform is a bit worrying. The non-independent rear end being one small hint that VAG are trying to push SEAT further down market.

I don't see the LCR3 gaining a proper diff, it'll still be that rubbish XDS nonsense.

SEAT should just say keep your XDS and give us a proper rear end, and the difference in the lower quality dash items can go on a real LSD :)

If Renault can make the Megane as a belter in a 3-door with a fantastic chassis, why can't SEAT, with a little bit of freedom, do the same?

Ah yes, of course. It might be a better drive than a Golf then, and that could never be allowed....

Thats true Craig - although lets not forget in the good ol' days the MK1 LCR had Brembo's and a bespoke body kit as well as 225bhp where the GTi only had 180bhp - although of course the R32 had 240bhp and an extra 2 cylinders and all wheel drive.

As you say, there is no way the Leon will ever outgun the Golf in the same way the Golf R will never outgun the RS3.

Its shite, but its how it is. Marketing at its best

But in the good old days , seats motor sport division developed the Cupra r that's why you got nice things like brembos
Wasn't the mk2 developed by seat? And not the sport division ?
We All saw the penny pinching mk1 vs mk2
So lets just see what happens in the market , Spain's in the **** could have a major knock on effect with seat , I'm sure vag won't prop up seat if things go tits up
