Hi, I am a 72 year old widow; at end of November 2019 the catalytic converter had to be replaced and a month later car went back for annual service and MOT. I mentioned it seemed to be driving rough/misfiring. Stalled for my daughter a couple of tiniest, The garage where I go have run checks and carried out several diagnostics and changed the plugs to no avail. They say they are scratching their heads over this, I found a thread on this site where someone had solved what seems to be the same fault they replaced the injectors and rail, and I am wondering if it would be ill mannered of me to show the people who have looked after my car for all these years the solution that was posted. They were going to check the computer today but have not got back to me. I have been without it for a week now. My daughter and I plan to buy an Arona later this year but would like to keep the Ibiza running a few months longer if possible. It’s a real nuisance.

I'm not sure how impressed they would be if you show them the post. The trouble is, misfiring can be a symptom of many things (clogged or faulty injectors included). But as mechanics I would have thought they'd know that anyway. And as they've already run diagnostics, I would guess there's no error codes to work with. They could take out the injectors, test / clean them but that would cost more money and they're not 100% sure that would cure it. Are there any garages closer to you that specialise in VW/Seat? It doesn't have to be a dealership as they will charge a fortune. But independent garages that specialise in VW/Seat/Skoda/Audi will be more used to seeing and fixing common faults and likely have more specialised diagnostic equipment.

The chap that owns this place recommended to my late husband that I should have this car, and he has always told me he thinks the Seats are excellent cars. They have taken the car to a third party diagnostic specialist near them. The nearest Seat dealer is South Croydon. They do sales as well. I was hoping to get a part exchange and of course this would affect the price. My daughter, who lives with me, and I have been thinking about the Arona, but wanted to wait a few more months, reasons personal.

He has told me today that the car is with a Seat/VW diagnostic specialist and they cannot find the problem. He thinks it is the ECU and with the age of the car this would be uneconomical to fix. He said best to trade it in ASAP. So, once he retrieves it he will let me know, I will collect and arrange to trade it. Thanks for feedback, Legojon.
